Y.L. LIBRARY WINDS UP ITS 7TH YEAR YORBA LINDA, Mar. 28—Special The Yorba Linda Public Library is closing its seventh year this month. A few statistics will be of interest at this time to those not well acquainted with the institution. It has 525 card-holders, and has now on the shelves 1340 books including material in the non-fiction list and all the good recent fiction. The library belongs to the district. It is absolutely free to any resident of the Yorba Linda tract and its joys are open to anyone living outside the boundaries for a nominal sum per year. If you have not used the material either for your enjoyment or knowledge you have missed a real treat. You can obtain information on any desired subject from the librarian, who is always willing to obtain any facts asked for, as soon as possible. If you are interested in bees or chickens—you will find splendid references in the library shelves, which will supply the needed information to bring you success. A comfortable cozy reading room containing all the latest magazines is open for your convenience and pleasure from 2:30 until 6:30 p.m. daily, except Sundays and holidays. Following is a partial list of our new books which will be ready for circulation on Apr. 1st: Old Glory and Verdun—a true story of a Red Cross nurse. McCOLLOCH URGES CITRUS INSTITUTE The Citrus Experimental Station, located at Riverside, should conduct a citrus institute in Orange-co at least once every year. The citrus growers of Orange county are demanding that this be done, says S.W. McColloch of Fullerton, superintendent of the Placentia Fruit company and president of the Placentia Orange Growers' Association. "I am stating the sincere belief of our thinking orange and lemon growers when I say that unless such an institution is provided, Orange-co will not be getting a square deal from Dr. H.J. Webber, director of the station," said McColloch. "Institutes have been held at Riverside, and an institute is to be made an annual feature of the National Orange Show at San Bernardino. Suggestions have been made—more appeals have been made for a regular institution in this section, but so far without avail. “If the citrus experimental station at Riverside hopes to serve the citrus growers of Southern California it cannot longer neglect Orange-co. The very fact that we grow Valencias successfully while the interior cannot is proof enough of that assertion. In order to be of service to us, the station at Riverside ought to be carrying on right now experiments in fertilization, irrigation and pruning. The experiments that it is carrying on in the interior are under conditions totally different from ours. Citrus men of this county have been given since the station was first proing Riverside support in its station posed, and seems to me that it is about time that Riverside, Dr. Webber or somebody else up there got busy and began to figure out what would be a square deal to us. There are plenty of orchardists here who would submit their orchard to experiment. For instance, the Placentia Fruit Company has 110 acres of oranges, some of it young. The station can have some of that orchard and our full ing experiments.
