BRING IN TWO BIG PRODUCERS, START 5 WELLS IN WEEK WITH THE OIL OPERATORS The bringing in of two big producers and the location of five new wells marked the development work of the great Southern California field for the week just closed. Excitement over the big strike on the Chapman Ranch continues to run high. Many deals involving from twenty to two hundred thousand dollars have already been made. The Liberty Petroleum Co well at Newport developed water so badly that a second cementing was resorted to recently. The cementing shut off all the production. Te well is now standing shut down awaiting the decision of the management on further work. BIG START WEEK PERATORS big productive new wells work of the field for excitement over Chapman high. Many twenty to two years have al- Co well at so badly was resorted ting shut off well is now litting the de-nt on further hard's initial test well, 3600 feet, is making excellent progress for a deep well. The formation, a combination of blue and brown shale, shows no oil worth mentioning. The Interstate Oil Company drilling south of the Liberty well reports 1000 feet of hole and has cemented at this point. At 400 feet the H. T. & K. Syndicate has landed a string of 15 1-2 inch pipe, and is prepared to proceed with the drilling. This well located in the Irvine wells is pronounced excellent from the standpoint of position and the experts are looking for successful results. The Union's deep well on the Bantanchury Ranch is a wonder from the standpoint of geology. At 4400, a blue shale formation was struck, and has continued without a break to the present depth of 5155. The thickest ever drilled into in this field. The well is not showing a sign of oil. There is 4 1-2 pipe in the well 1144 feet long, the pipe is free and the condition of the hole is excellent for the mile deep test. Three wells represent the present extent of the Union's development work on th old Graham-Loftus property. Five years ago this was the center of development for Southern California. The completion of the three wells now drilling will probably witness the close of drilling on the Graham-Loftus. No. 49 is drilling in brown shale at 3500. No. 51 is in the blue shale and making good progress at 2540. No. 52 is drilling in conglomerate at 2450, and is making good headway with the rotary in though this well will have more than 400 feet of oil sand to draw from and will be a big well. No. 31 got into a fishing job on drilling out the cement at 2000 feet and is delayed temporarily. No. 22, a new well, is rigging up and will start drilling on the completion of 28. Conditions continue very favorable for a producing well at No 21, the wildcat well of the Olinda Land Company. At 2820, this well is drilling in a brown shale that is carrying enough oil to be noticeable. Success here means the proving up of a large area for the land company and extension of the Olinda field eastward a couple of miles. The Olinda Land Company has No. 20 drilling at 280 feet and No. 19 cleaning out at 2970. The West Coast Oil Co is leading the developers of the Olinda field for the number of wells drilling, and We Are Delivering Your Growth In Any Quantity From The War Is Over—It's Time to St Phone 96 and Get t George P work on the old Graham-Loftus property. Five years ago this was the center of development for Southern California. The completion of the three wells now drilling will probably witness the close of drilling on the Graham-Loftus. No. 49 is drilling in brown shale at 3500. No. 51 is in the blue shale and making good progress at 2540. No. 52 is drilling in conglomerate at 2450, and is making good headway with the rotary in spite of the hard formation. On the Stearns, the Union is drilling one well, No. 55. At 3350 the formation is hard sand and indications for a good well are beginning to show up. The Stearns property produces some of the finest light oil in the district and the completion of No. 55 will mean something to the Brea field's supply of refinable oils. Many of the oil wells drilled fifteen years ago are keeping up wonderfully on production, only a few of them have declined. After being tied up with a fishing job over three months the Columbia is still unable to make any progress on its No. 7 on the Orange at Brea: No. 7 drilled to 2630 feet lost a portion of a double section bailer. Fishing for the broken bailer resulted in loss of tools and further fishing complications, so that the well is in rather bad shape. On its No. 13 at Brea, the Fullerton Oil is making excellent time. Over 120 feet of hole was made with the standard tools. The present formation shows shale at 2183 with no very strong oil indications as yet. No. 10, a well drilled to 2365, is still standing idle. Owing to some difficulty in getting the well in producing condition, work on it has been discontinued for the present. In the Olinda field development is going steadily ahead with good results everywhere. The Columbia, on its No. 28, is down 3875 feet. Oil sand was struck at 3500. No. 62, now drilling into the oil sand at 2863 feet, showing up particularly good. No., drilling at 2420, is in brown shale and showing considerable oil. No. 79, 2705 feet, is making hole in a hard sand that is showing lots of oil and plenty of gas to bring the production when the well is completed. Production on the old wells is holding up fine, the daily output being better than 2000 barrels. After standing cemented for a couple of weeks the Fullerton Oil Co. is about to drill out the cement and resume drilling. This well, previous to its cementing at 1885, looked like a real oil well. The project is attracting a great deal of attention on account of it being the farthest well to the east now drilling, and its completion will mean the extension of the Kramer field eastward about a mile from the present productive area.
