St. Joan" is still significant today’s audiences because of portrayal of the individual's quest for religious and political freedom, according to Kemp-Blair.
"Shaw has achieved in the play a balance between the arguments for ecclesiastical authority and the individual's right to stand alone in decisions," Kemp - Blair stated.

Felonies Mark Busy Weekend For Police
One arrest for assault an battery and two arrests for grand theft topped the Orange Police crime report for the weekend.
Claudie Caller Aaron Jr., 24, 2111 Broadway, Santa Ana, was arrested by Orange Police during the weekend on a charge of assault and battery after he allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old Santa Ana girl.
Police say Aaron told the girl her car was blocking a driveway in the 300 block of North Grand. The girl replied that her car was not but proceeded back to the vehicle. As she opened the car door Aaron put his hand on her right shoulder and attempted to restrain her. The girl broke loose and drove away.
Intoxicated State
Police were informed and at 8:20 p.m. Friday spotted Aaron standing in the area of Chapman College attempting to talk to a number of teenage girls.
Police say Aaron was in an intoxicated state.
The Santa Ana girl identified Aaron and he was arrested.
Two men also were arrested on a charge of grand theft by Orange Police after they allegedly took ten fire extinguishers from the Fashion Garden Apartments, 1921 W. La Veta Ave., during the weekend.
When apprehended, Larry Way, Tustin and Larry Allen Cooper Reece, 21, 13881 Karen Way, Tustin and Larry Allen Rogers, 21, 312 El Toro said they were taking the fire extinguishers "as a joke."
Police Dragnet
Edson E. Baldwin, manager of the apartments, was informed of the looting by a tenant. Given the license number of the car, he spotted it parked on Orchard Street backed up against the apartment fence. Baldwin parked his car in front of the vehicle and phoned police.
Police found the suspects hiding down in the front seat of the car.
A police dragnet was thrown out today for a heavy set man who was discovered in the bedroom of a residence on Darby Street early yesterday.
How the man, who wore a terry cloth shirt, had gained entrance to the house, was still yet to be determined, officers said.

PROPOSITION 17 makes it possible for California to put into effect the national transportation settlements—worked out by Congress and Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson—which eliminate wasteful featherbedding in the railroad industry under terms that insure maximum job protection, yet retain two men in the cab of all trains.
These settlements are now in effect in most states—but not in California because of a conflicting "horse and buggy days" law which Proposition 17 repeals.
