6—The Gazette Thursday, April 23, 1964 Examinations For Service AcademiesSet Senator Clair Engle today announced that written examinations for young men from California between the ages of 17 and 22 interested in appointments to the four Service Academies will be held throughout the State on Monday, July 13, 1964. The Senator invited anyone who wished to be considered for appointment to write him at the Senate Office Building, Washington 25, D. C., for information and an application form. The purpose of the examination conducted by the United States Civil Service Commission is to provide a method for selecting appointees to the U. S. Air Force Academy, Military Academy, Naval Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy. Senator Engle said he would rely primarily on the results of this examination to designate his own nominees for appointments to classes entering the Academies in July of 1965. The Senator said he is responsible for 1 appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy, 2 to the Naval Academy, 2 to the Military Academy, and 2 to the Air Force Academy. The deadline for letters to his office, he said, is Monday, June 8. Decaps, one of 17 Junior Achievement companies meeting at the Orange County Business Center at 1014 Raymond Way, Anaheim, has been designated by a panel of judges as the "Best in the Center". Junior Achievement is the national "learn-by-doing" program that teaches the free enterprise system to high school students by allowing them to operate miniature corporations under the guidance of adult businessmen from prominent local firms. Three hundred and fifty high school sophomores, juniors and seniors make up the 17 Orange County JA firms. Decaps, which manufactures and sells a desk pen and calendar set, is counselled by James A. Lyles, M. A. Seeley and C. Leo Gross, all members of the management team at Nortronics in Anaheim. Officers of the JA company are Suzie Weishaar, president, a junior at Rancho Alamitos High School; William Braeger, vice president of sales, a sophomore at Anaheim High School; Richard Vogel, vice president of manufacturing, a sophomore at Servite High School; Cindy Potter, treasurer, a junior at Orange High School; Janis Harvey, secretary, a sophomore at Orange High School. Runners-up in the contest were Jayco, a JA company counselled by Hughes Aircraft Company of Fullerton, and Decisions Anonymous, counselled by Autonetics of Anaheim. President of Jayco is Tom Perkins, a sophomore at Seven High School, while Jon Peterson a junior at Orange High School leads Decisions Anonymous. Judges in the competition were Dave James, partner, thur Young & Company, S. Ana; William Firetag, gen manager, New York Life Insurance Company of Orange County; Robert Sturgis, part Price Waterhouse & Compass Santa Ana; Ernest Rea, production manager, St. Regis Pai Company, Fullerton. The Campaign Speeded Up Committee In County S. Senator Clair Engle's design began picking up in Orange County today. Orange County Steering committee to Re-Elect Engle in Anaheim and mapped strategy to coordinate local efforts with the statewide cammunity Orange County leadave supported Senator Enver the years because of great skill in representingerna in the U. S. Senate." Blyman William E. Danmer (D-Fullerton) said at meeting. Dannemeyer is the chairman for the drive in this county to re-elect Engle. "No inter-party power struggle or petitness is great enough to cloud the fact that Clair Engle has done much for the people of this state, and will continue along these lines. The Senator has been instrumental in protecting many of California's water rights, and in bringing millions of dollars of defense contracts — and therefore useful employment — to California," stated Assemblyman Dannemeyer. A human's heart works 57 per cent harder in a hot, humid room than in an air conditioned one, according to results of tests conducted by a medical researcher. W. J. Altpeter, Orange County division sales manager for Southern Counties Gas Co., said the results were reported recently to a convention of the National Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Association by Dr. George E. Bruch, a research specialist at the Cardiovascular Laboratories of Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Burch's tests were made on patients in a hospital ward at 92 degrees F. and 95 per cent humidity, and compared against those in an air conditioned ward that had a temperature of 78 degrees F., and a humidity of 60 per cent. Another report delivered at the same convention said air conditioning is a major deterrent to disorders induced by pollens and allergies. Dr. Jay Spiegelman, an Albert Einstein Medical Center allergist, noted that air conditioning reduces pollen count to about one per cent of the outdoor concentration. The gas company sales manager said these medical reports point out some of the advantages of central gas air conditioning for homes, offices, and commercial buildings. Gas systems filter pollens and other foreign matter from the air, then de-humidify it before ing for delivery. The filtering system hooks the cleaning department. Practically no dust is distr in the cool air, and all wi an air conditioned house building are kept shut nating dust from the out. Then, the sales manager there is another important vantage of central gas air diitioning — economy of tion. High thermal contai natural gas is combined efficient equipment to res low fuel costs. Gas systems have few parts, and operate quietly out vibration. Continuous culation of cool or warm sures complete comfort times of the year.
