BUSINESS NEWS The United States Navy Bureau of Ships has awarded a negotiated fixed fee contract of $1,300,000 to Hughes Aircraft Co., Fullerton, for one naval tactical data system display subsystem for the French navy. It was announced by Rep. Richard T. Hanna. Hanna explained that the contract award was made by the Bureau of Ships in its capacity as procurement agency for the French navy. The work he said is to be done in Fullerton. Santa Fe Railway has ordered 500 box cars from the Pullman Standard Mfg. Co. at a cost of more than $8 million, Ernest S. Marsh, president, announced today. The 70-ton capacity cars will be 50' 6" long, equipped with roller bearings, shock control doors. The cars will go into general service, Marsh said, with delivery scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 1964. These cars are part of Santa Fe's 1964 capital improvement program, which includes 4800 freight cars of various types. American Electronics Inc., 1600 East Valencia Drive, Fullerton, has been awarded an approximately $200,000 contract by the Boeing Company, Aerr Space Division. The terms of the contract, American Electronics will supply Boeing with battery chargers to be used with the batteries employed in the U.S. Air Force Minute Man missile program. North American Aviation Autonetics Division, has been granted a United States Air Force contract for maintenance and repair of Minute Man guidance and control equipment. Mrs. Lin The Northern Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross held a kick-off luncheon at the Chapter House to inaugurate ticket sales for the Red Cross benefit premier of "My Fair Lady" at Melodyland, May 12, according to an announcement by Milton A. Rhea, Chapter Chairman. The benefit will make possible an expansion project to allow ample facilities for the Chapter to conduct a bi-monthly Blood Donor Center here in Orange County and to further provide classroom facilities for the many Red Cross courses to be taught at the Chapter House, 2201 East Chapman, Fullerton. The entire event is receiving much publicity since it marks the first time any organization has taken over the ticket sales for the entire house at Melody- Explorers Bowling Leagues Form; Head for Tourneys Explorer units in the Northern Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, have recentely formed a bowling league at the Anaheim Bowl. Under the direction of Explorer Richard Clabaugh and Anaheim Explorer Coordinator Paul Harding, the league will loperate for twelve weeks. The teams are made up of four Explorers each and bowl three games each Saturday morning. The league will culminate in the participation by each team in the Fourth Annual AJBC-BSA Explorer National Bowling Tournament, co-sponsored nationally by the American Junior Bowling Congress and the Boy Scouts of America. the Anaheim Izaak Walton League, and Post 70x. North Orange Countians would support this vast under- Opera Auditions Set Sunday In Laguna Auditions for the 1964 Festival of Opera season will be conducted at the Laguna Beach High School Auditorium, Sunday. April 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with no appointment necessary. The three operas to be presented in Irvine Bowl this season are Verdi's "La Traviata", Aug. 21 and 22; Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte", Aug. 28 and 29; and Puccini's "La Boheme", Sept. 4 and 5. All singers participating in the auditions must supply their own music and may use their own accompanist although a Festival of Opera accompanist will be available. An additional audition session, by appointment only, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on the same day. Appointments may be requested at the Festival of Opera office, 275 Broadway, Laguna Beach, through March 30. Lutherans Meet In San Diego Lutherans are attending the twenty-fourth convention of the Southern California District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in San Diego, April 1-3. Convention delegates representing 194 congregations in Southern California and Arizona are in attendance at the El Cortez Hotel to discuss a wide variety of issues facing the Lutheran Church. Resolutions being discussed and voted upon include support and funds for fighting racial inequalities, improving the vast parochial school system, the need to open new mission congregations in Southern California, and the study of various doctrinal issues. The Southern California District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is comprised of more than 100,000 baptized members. Individual congregations operate sixty-one parochial elementary schools to which 200 teachers are assigned. The president of the district is the Rev. Victor L. Behnken of Laguna Beach; the Rev. William Graumann, Riverside, first vice-president; The Rev. Edward Schroeder, Long Beach, second vice-president; The Rev. Arnold Kuntz, Lakewood, third vice-president; and The Rev.
