Gift Shop Profits Benefit Hospital
Mrs. Rodney Darby of Orange, Buyer for Martin Luther Hospital Guild, announced profits from the gift shop and service cart will allow Mrs. Marley Jones of Anaheim, Financial Secretary of the Guild, to present a $500 check to the Guild's general treasury to be used for the purchase of additional equipment for Martin Luther Hospital.
The service cart, presently under the direction of Mrs. Dale Everly of Anaheim, was organized and put into service in July 1961, and daily (except for Sundays) offers patients to tie-tries, books, cards, games, and items to make their stay in the hospital as pleasant as possible. In December of 1961, profits from the service cart allowed the Guild to open a gift shop in the hospital cafeteria. Under the supervision of Mrs. Cory Hoff, the shop is open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., daily except Sundays, and stocks both unusual and hand-made items, as well as seasonal gifts for hospitalized patients. Staffed by 25 volunteers, the cart and shop require 250 hours of volunteer time per month.
In the near future, Junior Guild Candystripers will staff the service cart in the hospital lobby during evening hours for the convenience of visitors.
PESTICIDES TALK
Dr. Emil M. Mrak, Chancellor, Davis Campus, University o California, recently told a conference on the use of agricultural chemicals that: "When people know very little about the use of pesticides and have incorrect information on which to base their conclusions they tend to take a positive stand — unfortunately, often the wrong one." He pointed out that facts concerning pesticides should be communicated accurately to the publi.

Builders Join to Aid St. Jude Hospital
A tree of the leading builders in North Orange County have joined to form a Builders' Hall at St. Jude Hospital. The organization of the guild came as a result of a recent conference which they discussed the nature of North Orange County in the part they, as builders, were playing in it. Among other things, the health field was stressed and the importance of good health facilities in attaining new industries and people to the area. It was apparent that good health facilities must be maintained if a desirable type of resident is to be reached.
It was also realized that peo-moving into the area caused a shortage of hospital beds necessitated the recent expansion program at St. Jude. The incoming population needed treatment but at that point
result was an agreement to contribute $25, from each sale to St. Jude, the money to be used to help pay for the new wing and for further expansion and or improvements.
Charter members of the group include William Lyon, president of Sunny Hills Development Company and Luxury Homes, Inc.; Donald N. Schneider, president of D. N. Schneider adn Associates; and Middlebrook-Anderson, builders of President Homes. William Lyon is Chairman of the group. Other builders in the area will be contacted in order to expand the group's membership and to give each builder an opportunity to join.
At a presentation ceremony at St. Jude Hospital on Wednesday, March 11, each member was presented with a hand-drawn golf course.

was also realized that peomance from newly constructed housing depended, to a certain extent, on the continuation of a good quality of health care. Reasoned the builders, it was up to them to give financial support to the hospital in the name of the buyer.
As a result of this conversation each builder in attendance agreed to contribute a set amount to the hospital for each new home sold. Since F.H.A. regulations prevent such expenses from being passed on to the buyer, the funds would have to be taken from the profits made on each sale. The final AVOCADO UNIQUE
Unlike most ruits, avocados never ripen on the tree. They must be picked and left at room temperature from two to seven days until they soften. Ripe avocados, with their delicate taste, are rapidly increasing their share of the American family's diet.

Miss Prowse also has an album due for release called "Anyone Can Whistle." She has just closed at the "Flamingo" in Las Vegas and will return there following the Melodyland stay. Jimmy has given strict orders that all performers get star billing along with him on all signs and programs, with Juliet billed even larger.
"As far as I'm concerned, they don't even have to mention my name," says Jimmy. "Just tell the people it's the Jimmy Durante Show! They'll come!"
With the PTA
The topic for the panel discussion for the Harbor Council PTA meeting of Fourth District PTA at Corona del Mar High School was "Framework for Guiding Our Youth."
Moderator for the panel was Stan F. Ostling, juvenile protection chairman for Fourth District who states, "We hear a great deal of talk about the decline of religious convictions and moral concern in our youth. Our youths are lazy. They do not work at their studies. The community standards are slipping. Just how much credence can we give these ideas?"
The panelists who gave the response to these provocative remarks included: Manuel Esqueda, acting as a representative of the community and a parent; Paul Geitleman, who works while attending college, acting as a representative of youth.
