2—The Anaheim Gazette Thursday, February 6, 1964 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Author Set For Meeting Of YMCA Sterling Sill, author and speaker of Salt Lake City, will address the 41st Annual Meeting of the Anaheim YMCA planned for 6:30 p.m., Feb. 17th at the Disneyland Hotel, it was announced by Judge Max V. Eliason, dinner chairman. Judge Eliason will introduce Sill, a writer and speaker in the field of human problems and character development. YMCA president Richard Gay will preside. Anaheim ‘Y’ Plans European Excursion The Anaheim YMCA has announced the sponsorship of a European Experience Tour to be held the months of July and August of this year. Students will fly to Montreal from Los Angeles and then take a passenger line out the St. YMCA in Geneva, Switzerland This program is conducted because the Anaheim YMCA believes in experiences in work friendship and considers your greatest ambassadors. The traditional major YMCA event is expected to attract over five hundred YMCA members and friends. The installation of 1964-65 Board officers and induction of new Board members, a program review, special music and service recognitions are planned. Table hostesses will direct table decorations. Planning committee members include, beside Judge and Mrs. Eliason, the Messers, and Mestames Robert Borden, William Kellogg, Russell Hess, Glenn Fry, Everett Gillespie, and James Albrecht. Cheverton Elected by Chapman William C. Cheverton of Whittier, retired vice president of Alpha Beta Acme Markets, Inc. has been re-elected chairman of the board of trustees of Chapman College. Other officers re-elected were vice chairman, Dr. Edward H. Hashinger of La Jolla, emeritus professor of medicine; secretary, Irvin C. Chapman of Fullerton, general manager of the C. C. Chapman Holdings; assistant secretary, E. C. Missildine of Santa Ana, manager of Sears Roebuck and Company; and treasurer, William J. Haney of Fullerton, president of the Kirkhill Rubber Company. Dr. John Paul Pack of Los Angeles, minister of the Wilshire Christian Church, was elected a vice chairman to succeed R.W. Blackburn, who recently retired from the board. Trustees reappointed to three year terms on behalf of the Anaheim YMCA has announced the sponsorship of a European Experience Tour to be held the months of July and August of this year. Students will fly to Montreal from Los Angeles and then take a passenger line out the St. Lawrence seaway to La Havre in France. They will tour, by chartered motorcoach, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, England, Ireland, after visiting the historical sights in France. Returning to New York they will visit the Worlds Fair and travel to Washington, D.C., to tour that area. They will then take a jet back to Los Angeles. The number of participants will be 15 girls and 15 boys with three directors. Students must be between the ages of 16 and 20 and need not be a Y member. The cost will be $1400 and will include boat, TWA Airlines, air conditioned bus, all meals hotel accommodations, and sightseeing fees. Directors Directors taking the tour will be Mrs. Mary Jo Agren, supervisor of the Anaheim High School Y clubs, Mike Meldau, leader of the Satans Hi-Y club at Anaheim High, and Frank Sekeris, boys program secretary at the Anaheim YMCA. All three directors have previously been to Europe and have shared different tour experiences. This will be a co-operative venture between the local YMCA and the International YMCA in Geneva, Switzerland. This program is conducted because the Anaheim YMCA believes in experiences in work friendship and considers your greatest ambassadors. More Than Money They believe they should send people as part of their world service commitment and not just send money. In developing a Christian personality and building a Christian society, they need to help youth assume their place of leadership in a ever shrinking world. There will be a meeting on January 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Y building for the students already signed up for the European tour. Vienna Boy Club To Aid Friends Tickets are on sale for the concert of the Vienna Choir Boy at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Feb. 18. The concert is a benefit for the American Friends Service Committee and Pacific Ackworth Friends School. Radioactive fallout, while continuing to be watched closely by health and civil defense officials, was virtually insignificant in Orange County during 1963. This was the report from the Orange County Health Department which operates an air-sampling station as part of the state-wide radiation monitoring system of the California Disaster Office. According to Dr. Edward Lee Russell, Health Officer, the average daily fallout reading locally was 5.5 micromicrocuries per cubic meter of air. This compared with a California average of 9.0 and a national average reading of 7.3 micromicrocuries per cubic meter of air. This is a slight increase over 1962 figures. "This was anticipated," the health official stated, "Due to slow settling of debris from earlier nuclear weapons testing in the atmosphere." No known atmospheric testing was conducted in 1963.
