Anaheim-Fullerton Branch Announced for Union Bank
Plans for a major Union Bank office to serve the communities of Fullerton and Anaheim have been announced by Harry J. Volk, bank president.
Volk said the new facility will be built on four and one-half acres of property at the intersection of two major traffic arteries — Harbor Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue. The site on the northwest corner of the intersection was purchased by Union Bank from Lands and Buildings, Inc., realty developers.
While details of size and architectural design are still under discussion, Volk said plans call for construction of a multi-story building, with a new Union Bank office occupying the ground floor and lower level.
"The development of this new facility reflects both the present and Anaheim, and our confidence that this growth will continue for many years to come," he said.
Volk said the planned facility will mark an extension of Union Bank's unique regional banking program in Orange County. The bank's regional head office at Main and La Veta in Orange has been serving the county since April, 1961, and is under the direction of James McCulloch, regional vice president.
Regional banking was introduced by Union Bank in 1957 as a major innovation in banking vides growing suburban communities with a local bank which has the complete integrated services and decision-making authority usually found only in headquarters offices of downtown Los Angeles banks.
Volk noted that the greatest period of growth during Union Bank's 50 years of service to Southern California has paralleled the development of the regional banking program. It is now the nation's 30th largest bank with assets in excess of $1 billion.
S & L Firm In Anaheim At Milestone
A. G. Kruse, president of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Alhambra, has disclosed that the firm's Anaheim office, which opened just a year ago, has passed the $1 million mark in savings.
In his report at the association's recent 38th annual meet-Kruse said:
"The first $1 million is the hardest to get, and the first $100 million at First Federal took 35 years to accomplish."
"We estimate that the second $100 million will arrive at the end of 1965 — or be accomplished in about four years."
In addition to its headquarters in Alhambra and office in Anaheim, First Federal also has branches in Costa Mesa and West Palm Beach.
