J.A. Group In Tour Of Plant Teenage officials and employees of Stampco, one of the 17 Junior Achievement companies organized recently in Orange County, were special guests of Buzza-Cardozo at a tour of the greeting card company's manufacturing plant at 1500 South Los Angeles St, in Anaheim. The Junior Achievement program is an eight-month "learn-by-doing" program for boys and girls between 15 and 19 years of age, designed to provide them with a working knowledge of the term according to C. E. White, manager of administration and materiel for Hughes Aircraft Co., ground systems group and executive council member of the Orange County program. The teenage corporations are organized under guidance from adult advisers from prominent local firms, such as Hughes, Buzza-Cordozo is the counselling firm for Stampco, which produces stamped paper products. During the recent plant tour, Achievers were shown through the areas of creative art work, data processing, silk screening, hand and machine finishing, die cutting, embossing, gold stamping, cutting and order filling. BOTH ACHIEVERS — Sharon Radichel, on the left—or is that Karen? No, that's Karen on the right—we think. At any rate, the twins are Sharon and Karen Radichel of Anaheim, both of whom are members of Junior Achievement companies. Telemetrics Gets Building Going With groundbreaking ceremonies—the new plant, readily accessible Firestone Given New JA Post Leonard K. Firestone, president of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of California, will head the 1964 Junior Achievement Week effort in southern California. Firestone's acceptance of the chairmanship of the JA Week Policy Committee was announced by JA President Hale N. Kemp, manager of administrative services, Southern California Edison Co. The National Advertising Council has set Jan. 25 through Feb. 1, 1964, as Junior Achievement Week. In the Southland, the promotional event will honor more than 3,300 teenagers who are operating 168 Junior Achievement "corporations" with the guidance of adult executives: Serving with Firestone as members of the JA Week Policy Committee are: F. G. Rodgers, vice president and regional manager, IBM Corp.; H. E. Olson, president, Carnation Company; M. C. Borland, vice president, J. Walter Thompson Company; and R. Parker Sullivan, president, General Telephone Company. Junior Achievement is the national business program of economic experience which acquaints teenagers with the American free enterprise system by giving them the opportunity to organize and operate their own companies. The JA Week Policy Committee's responsibility will be to formulate policy for JA Week '64, and name an Operating Committee to implement these policies. Philco Picks VP From Telemetrics Gets Building Going With groundbreaking ceremonies last week Telemetrics, Inc., a subsidiary of Technical Measurement Corp. (North Haven, Conn.), signalized its decision to Santa Ana from Gardena. Mayor A. Allen Hall and Robert L. Burr, president of the expanding electronics firm, assisted by other civic and company officials wielded a golden shovel to begin work on a new 42,000 square foot headquarters, engineering and manufacturing facility at Harbor Boulevard and Warner Avenue. The new facility, to be leased by Telemetrics from the John B. Kilroy Co., will provide a 140 per cent increase over the company's current space, becoming available in March of 1964. For the new plant, readily accessible from the Santa Ana Freeway, Coldwell, Banker and Co., realtors, arranged a 15-year lease on the 10-acre parcel for $1.2 million for lease and improvements. Telemetrics has delivered more universal, wide range, high speed telemetry decommutation systems than any other company in its field. Its customers include NASA, more than 20 prime contractors, and the Atlantic Missile Range, and Telemetrics products are used on every major space program, including Mercury, OGO, Saturn II and SIC, OSO, OAO, Relay, Apollo, Titan II and III, Minuteman, Dynasoar and Gemini. Philco Picks VP From Aeronutronic The board of directors of Philco Corporation has elected Dr. Lloyd P. Smith a vice president of the company. C. E. Beck, Philco president and chief executive officer, said Dr. Smith, who is now director of research at Philco's Aeronutronic Division in Newport Beach, Calif., will be in charge of Philco's research activities in the Philadelphia area and Newport Beach. He will have his headquarters at Newport Beach. Beck emphasized that, as in the past, advanced development efforts will continue to be the primary responsibility of the Philco divisions concerned. Before joining Aeronutronic in November, 1959, Dr. Smith had been president of the Avco Research and Advanced Development Division, and a director of Avco Manufacturing Corporation. John J. Collier, Department Director, in letters to leading philanthropic groups, pointed out that Karen has been extended an unusual honor. An honor that reflects well on Anaheim and its public institutions. Karen has been invited to be part of The Idyllwild Arts Center symphony orchestra when it flies to England for concerts during the Easter Holiday. Although only 15 years old, she would perform with the 80 best young musicians in the Western States. The Idyllwild Center asks each participant to pay $500.00 a hardship to Karen who has no parents and lives with her sister and brother-in-law. Last summer Karen attended the Idyllwild Camp orchestra seminar with partial aid from scholarships given the Department's Youth Symphony Orchestra by the Junior Ebel Club and the Assistance League. Her performance there earned her the invitation to join the orchestra trip to England. Karen plays also with the Loara High School companies, Karen's company, Decisions Anonymous, makes and sells a “Decision Maker” for busy executives while Sharon's company, Jayco, produces a styrofoam Santa Claus with blinking eyes.
