Robert A. Geier Seeks 'Rematch'
Orange public relations agency owner Robert A. (Bob) Geier today announced his intention to seek the office of Representative in Congress from the 34th Congressional District (the western half of Orange County.)
Geier won the Republican nomination for the office and narrowly lost the general election to Richard Hanna in 1962.
Geier spent five years in Washington, D.C. as administrative assistant to Congressman James B. Utt (R-35th District). Since that time, he has been district representative of the 35th District congressman while operating the public relations agency that bears his name.
A resident of Orange County for nearly thirty years, Geier was manager of the Martin School of Aviation for a number of years before entering the political picture. He has written a weekly aviation column for a county newspaper for the past 15 years.

The Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc., has announced a decision to transfer the assets of its subsidiary, Astropower, Inc., to divisions of the parent company, which will carry forward work on current contracts.
About 160 persons work at the Astropower facility in Newport Beach, and nearly all are expected to be placed in positions with the Douglas company. The present Astropower buildings will continue to be used by the company, and work on Astropower contracts will continue.

Urge Use of Yule Seals
The Orange County Board of Supervisors, in a recent action, formally designated December as Christmas Seal Month and urged support of the Christmas Seal drive which the Orange County Tuberculosis and Health Association is conducting.
Citing the long-range health hazard of respiratory disease which Christmas Seals combat, Supervisor C. M. Featherly said, "Tuberculosis has long been assumed to be an old fashioned disease which no longer exists."
"The facts prove otherwise. While our backs have been turned tuberculosis has returned to first place as the most deadly contagious disease in the United States."
Featherly, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, noted that special efforts to combat tuberculosis in Orange County are vital because of the enormous increase in the County's population. "Many of our new residents," he continued, "may come from areas of the nation where tuberculosis is widely prevalent."
Interstate's New Tracker
Interstate Electronics Corp. of Anaheim has just delivered a new kind of dynamic resolver tracking bridge, according to Paul H. Reedy, Interstate president.
The current application of the equipment is to measure in digital form the output of precision resolvers, Reedy said. The tracking bridge presents a balanced high-impedance load (in excess of 10 megohms) to the resolver transmission system, thus holding the loading effect to an absolute minimum.
This is the first fully automatic system of this type with such dynamic capabilities and accuracies, Reedy said. The equipment was widespread application

This writer, in another city's police station not long ago, observed the reactions of a couple on learning their 13-year-old son — who looked like a choir boy — was a thief. He had been the ringleader of a "joyriding" gang which had stolen eight expensive cars and done thousands of dollars in damage to the autos while learning to drive on them.
"I can't understand it," the mother said. "We worked, we both worked so hard to get a nice place in a nice neighborhood for him, so he shouldn't grow up in a slum like we did."
"Just last month," she added, "we sent the boys' club dues so he could have someplace to go evenings when we were both working. I guess the nights when he said he was at the clubhouse, he was out stealing cars."
Did they ever stop in to see how he was doing at the boys' club, or call the club director, the juvenile officer asked.
"No," she replied, "we were so busy. My husband has two jobs, and I keep books at night. We worked so hard."
The husband didn't say anything, just sat and stared out the window but he was rocking

Japan, Formosa Strong
Japan and the National Chinese government on Hiroshima have made impressive strides forward in recent years. Knowland said, but elsewhere in the Far East — particularly in Southeast Asia — he pictured big trouble ahead in the U.S.
American foreign policy in the Far East, Knowland said include:
— Vigorous support of the Thai government formed after the death this week of all Prime Minister Sarit Thanawat staunch U.S. ally.
Backing the new Vietnamese government, who is attempting to coordinate military forces of various ligious seets for a unified fort against the Communist Viet Cong.
— Resistance to any Vietnamese coalition government which historically has been solved in favor of total Communist control.
— Maintaining for the entire future a strong showing American military might in Asia centered around the powerful Seventh Fleet.

Chief Warns on Peril Of Unvented Heater
Efforts of local fire officials to inform the public of provisions of state law concerning unvented heating equipment in home and apartments will again be augmented this year by a program undertaken by Southern Counties Gas Company. Fire Chief Ed. J. Stringer has announced.
As outlined by Chief Stringer and Justin M. Kennedy, Orange County Division Manager for Southern Counties, the gas company effort will consist of a determined program to bring to the public correct information on proper heating equipment.
The utility firm will continue its policy of free adjustment service to gas appliances when requested by customers.
State Law
The California State Housing Law states that only properly vented heating equipment is approved for use in hotels, apartments, and private dwellings, the utility official pointed out.
Southern Counties' servicemen, whenever they observe during regular service calls on that does not meet requirements of state laws, will leave with the customer information illustrating the types of equipment which meet the law's requirements as well as those which do not.
The information urges the customer to seek the advice of qualified heating contractors about replacing inadequate equipment with approved, vented gas equipment.
Where unvented equipment is found which cannot be adjusted or which is of unapproved, vented gas equipment.
Where unvented heating equipment is found which cannot be explained to the customer and suggestions for remedy will be made available, the gas company manager added.
The gas company official stressed that Southern Counties is glad to join the local fire department and public health agencies in their campaign to inform the public concerning the safety equipment and to advise on the availability of safe, approved gas heating equipment.
"Gas has proved itself," said Kennedy, "to be a safe and reliable fuel in modern, approved heating installations. The gas company wishes to contribute to public health and welfare by advising its customers of the increased safety and comfort available to them through the use of up-to-date equipment."
Fire Chief Stringer, in welcoming the continued cooperation of the gas company, pointed out that his department's part of the program will consist of close cooperation between the Fire Department and the Gas Company in the installation and inspection of all unvented heaters.
Hanna Seeking Kennedy Dollars
Congressman Richard T. Hanna has urged Treasury Secretary Douglas C. Dillon to assure that the $50,000,000 silver dollars to be minted by the United States next year bear the face of former President John F. Kennedy.
"These silver dollars will circulate for many many days."
The information urges the customer to seek the advice of qualified heating contractors about replacing inadequate equipment with approved, vented gas equipment.
Where unvented equipment is found which cannot be properly adjusted or which is of unapproved design, such equipment will be shut off, Kennedy said. In such cases, the reasons for such action will
Whetmore, Assembly Group Probe Sand-Gravel Woes
Assemblyman James Whetmore (R-Garden Grove) is off to San Francisco this week to attend the public hearings of the Assembly Subcommittee on Manufacturing, Oil and Mining.
Whetmore is chairman of the sub-committee.
He said the subject of discussion at the San Francisco hearings will center on the plight of many sand and gravel operators throughout the state.
The problem in a nutshell, Whetmore said, is the population boom and the resultant development of homes in areas where natural soil resources include vital sand and gravel deposits.
The sand and gravel operators fear they are being forced out by people and zoning. Whetmore stated: "We are investigating the matter to see if legislation is needed in this area."
Whetmore revealed that several sand and gravel operators are of opinion certain areas should be set aside where sand and gravel deposits are located to preserve the area for industrial use by the operators.
There is a great need close to or in metropolitan areas for sand and gravel sites, Whetmore said, due to the cost of transporting the material to construction projects.

Postmaster Suggested by Early Mailing
Faced with the certainty that Christmas 1963 will set an all-time record for mailings of Christmas cards and gifts, Postmaster Marshall N. McFie has requested Anaheim residents' cooperation in his annual "Mail Early For Christmas" Campaign.
"Here are the things to watch to be sure that every Christmas card and gift package will be delivered before Christmas Eve," the postmaster said.
1. Check over your Christmas card and gift list very carefully, making certain each address is complete with full name, street and number, city, state and ZIP Code number.
2. Stock up soon on sturdy packing materials for your gift packages, including heavy wrapping paper, corrugated cartons, strong cord and paper adhesive tape.
3. Buy your postage stamps now. Be sure to use the colorful new five cent Christmas Tree stamps on your cards.
4. Procure free labels from your post office which read "ALL FOR LOCAL DELIVERY" and "ALL FOR OUT-OF-TOWN DELIVERY", so that you can sort your Christmas cards into two groups, with addresses all facing one way, thus insuring fast delivery. A supply of these labels will be delivered about Dec. 1.
5. Be sure that your full name and address is on all of your Christmas card catalogs.
MEMORIAL CANCER FUND'S
DRIVE STARTS AGAIN IN COUNTY
The Orange County Branch of the American Cancer Society is week has renewed its continuing memorial program which enables friends and relatives of cancer victims to express their sorrow and at the same time to strike back at the disease.
More than 16,000 letters exaining the donation program have been mailed, said Mrs. Paul R. Holmes, president of the local Branch.
"The memorial program concludes sympathy and concern to those in sorrow and strikes a blow at cancer by providing such needed funds for cancer research and education and for service to cancer patients," she said.
Memorial contributions given to memory of cancer victims provide a substantial percentage of the total gifts to the fight against cancer. Last year alone memorial donors gave more than $21,000 in Orange County, Mrs. Holmes said.
Memorial gifts are handled promptly. The same day a donation is received the Cancer Society sends a memorial card to the family of the person in whose memory it was made. At the same time a receipt is returned to the donor.
