Disneyland Awards Entry Deadline Near
Organizations intending to participate in this year's Disneyland Community Service Awards Program should submit "Notice of Intent" immediately, Dr. Samuel Gendel, Chairman of the 1963 Disneyland Award Committee, advised today.
In reporting on the second meeting of the Awards Committee, Dr. Gendel noted that 68 organizations have already filed intentions to participate. Any group or organization in Orange County, regardless of size, that carries out a community-service project as part of its activities is eligible to submit an application. Official application forms, however, must be completed and submitted to the Committee by December 31, 1963.
Disneyland has allocated $13,000 this year for fifteen cash awards. These cash awards will be presented at the annual CSA Presentation Luncheon on January 21 at the Disneyland Hotel. Seven of the awards will go to Anaheim organizations; seven to organizations in other parts of Orange County and one to the organization selected from the county-at-large which in the opinion of the committee has carried out the most exceptional community service project of the year.

To date the following Anaheim organizations have filed notices of their intention to take part in this year's program:
Anaheim Memorial Hospital Guild, Anaheim Park Chess Club, Anaheim - Western Communities United Fund, Assistance League, Junior Ebell Club, Knights of Columbus - Council No. 1154, Martin Luther Hospital Guild, Parents Without Partners, Anaheim Fullerton Chapter, Psychological Guidance Center, Senior Girl Scout Troop 74, Symphony Guild of Anaheim, U. S. Air Force Mothers - Flight XI, and West Anaheim Lady Lions.
Co-chairman for Thursday's Hanna fete are Robert D. Wetzler, Anaheim; A. E. (Pat Arnold, Cypress; Fred Beckham, Fullerton; and D. N. Schneider, Fullerton).
Tickets to the affair, which is scheduled for the hours of 6 to p.m., are $50 per plate and may be purchased at the door.
Demo Asks Backing of JFK Goals
Orange County Democratic Chairman Dr. Norman Meyer has called for Orange County Democrats to honor the memory of President Kennedy by their all-out support of his humanitarian goals.
Specifically, Dr. Meyer endorsed these programs: "Support of the United Nations; man best hope for peace; equal opportunity for all Americans, and an equitable tax reduction to get America's unemployed back to work."
"The strident voices of the extremists have drowned out the sound of reason too long," said the Demo chief. "Americans do not subscribe to Cains cry-'Am I my brothers keeper? The political atmosphere in Dallas is not unfamiliar to Orange Countains. In these past weeks we have seen that hatred breeds violence and lawlessness. We must rededicate ourselves to a government of laws. Let's support our democratic government and our elected leaders. After all, this is the government of, by and for the people."
Dr. Meyer called for a grass roots outpouring of support for President Johnson's efforts to solve the complex problems of America in a world of opportunity and danger. "Write, to President Johnson and to your Congressmen," he urged.

Professor Announces Assembly Candicacy
Orange State College professor Ray Johnson tossed his hat into the ring for the 71st Assembly District seat Monday during a somewhat subdued press conference in Santa Ana.
Johnson, a 45-year-old Democrat, said he would not campaign until January in respect to the memory of President Kennedy. He imposed a moratorium on political questions during the session with reporters. He promised a vigorous campaign once 1964 begins however.
The candidate, who is an assistant professor of journalism at OSC, refused to speculate on whether the 71st District incumbent, Republican Robert E. Badham, would choose to defend his seat or go after the State Senate position of retiring John A. Murdy Jr.
But he predicted victory in any case because his candidacy "is being supported by distinguished Orange Countians who believe that Orange County has come of age politically economically, intellectually, socially and who are concerned about extremist representation."
Johnson, married and the father of two, resides in San Clemente. His is a Coast Guard veteran of World War II, has a bachelor's degree from Los Angeles State College and a mastatus. Carlson, the cosponsorter's from Stanford.
