DEE NEEDS A BROTHER Boy’s Problem Is ‘Borrowing’ One of the typical situations in the case history files of Big Brothers of Orange County is that of a boy we shall call Dee, who seems to have tremendous mechanical aptitude, but who has no chance in his present home life to further this interest. He is a boy whose whole future is virtually dependent on his receiving a man’s guidance to replace the void in his life created by his absent father. Dee’s nickname suits him just fine because his real name is the same as that of a girl’s with a slight difference in spelling. In fact, everything about Dee is a little bit unusual. His father’s departing the home a few years ago scarcely caused a ripple because his mother has been a business woman ever since Dee can remember, and has very capably supported the family. The father was a writer who never had much published. Dee’s mother came to Big Brothers asking for help because she was on the verge (to use her terminology) of giving up on him. Dee is big, pleasant, passive and 15 years old. Because he is rather bright, he is able to pass at school with little effort. Most of Dee’s problems are in the neighborhood and at home. Dee thinks he wants to become an automobile mechanic, an ambition his mother discourages as she wants him to be a professional man and give on most things. Dee’s immediate problem is that of “borrowing” tools which he does with regularity. The last time he borrowed tools, it was a set of very fine chromium wrenches. When they were returned to the neighbor, the man commented that they were polished to a higher gloss than when he bought them. It’s obvious, however, that Dee is headed for trouble if he continues as he is going. He very badly needs a man in his life... someone to help him satisfy his desire for mechanical tinkering, which, quite possibly, will help Dee to develop fession along mechanical skills. Big Brothers of Orange County is looking for the right to serve as Dee’s Big Brother because here, it will take tie to accomplish so much. The man who is willing give this gift of a few weeks to a boy can get in touch about being a Big Brother by calling Big Brothers of Orange County at KI 7-7788 writing them at 515 North Street, Santa Ana. “No man ever stands straight as when he stoops help a boy.” Dee is big, pleasant, passive and 15 years old. Because he is rather bright, he is able to pass at school with little effort. Most of Dee's problems are in the neighborhood and at home. Dee thinks he wants to become an automobile mechanic, an ambition his mother discourages as she wants him to be a professional man and gave away several tools that his brother had accumulated. He doesn't know what else he wants to do and his mother, seeing him sitting around, is horrified that he might decide he wants to be a writer like his father. Despite this problem, he and his mother get along well Servite Dean’s List, Honors Announced Names of 10 students attaining to the Deans’ List and to the Honor Roll for the first quarter of the present school year at Servite High School, Anaheim, have been released by the principal, the Rev.
