MORE ABOUT Johnson Profile (Continued From Page 1) "LBJ" fascinate our new executive to the extent that their two handsome daughters also bear them. They are named Lynda Bird and Lucy Baines. Thinned Down President Johnson is a tall man, six feet, three inches, weighing about 175 pounds — down considerably from his weight before his heart attack in 1955. He is a dapper dresser. His face is lined and his somewhat receding hair is grey. He is a good public speaker but no fiery orator. His great influence comes from his ability to judge what is possible, then work toward it. He was President Kennedy's leading opponent at the Los Angeles National Democratic Convention in 1960. When he was defeated, he was invited by Mr. Kennedy to become his running mate. Politicians credit Mr. Johnson with much of the success Mr. Kennedy enjoyed in Texas and in Deep Southern states during the election against Richard M. Nixon. Much Traveled President Johnson has traveled much at home and abroad since becoming vice president. He has met most of the world's top leaders, including Nikita Khrushchev of Russia. He has handled much of our space program direction, so he is familiar with this new sphere. Certainly, he knows domestic politics and economics and the ways of Washington. The chief executive has tremendous energy and drive. He has few political illusions. He will need these qualities and experiences in his new and exacting assignment. Obviously he wants the Democratic nomination next summer. He is expected to follow the broad lines of the Kennedy Administration, although he probably will be less extreme on some issues or relations, including civil rights legislation and labor union matters.
