KNOWLAND TO SPEAK
Murdy Testimonial
Orange County citizens will pay tribute to retiring State Senator John A. Murdy, Jr., at a testimonial dinner at the Embassy Room of the Disneyland Hotel Tuesday evening, Dec. 10.
Former United States Senator William F. Knowland will be the principal speaker at the affair which is being sponsored by the Orange County Republican Central Committee.
Dennis Carptenter, Central Committee Chairman, announced that co-chairmen for the dinner will be Walter Knott of Buena Park and Dr. Terrell Root of Laguna Beach.
Murdy announced last week that he would retire from office when his term expires next year. He has served as state senator from Orange County since 1952.
Knowland, who is chairman of the California Advisory Committee for Goldwater, was himself elected a California state senator in 1934.
He was elected to that post after a two year term as state assemblyman, a post to which he was elected when he was 24 years old.
Following Army service in World War II, he served 12 years as United States Senator from California.
He ran for governor in California in 1958, and, after losing that election, took up his present post as editor and assistant publisher of the family owned Oakland Tribune.
