A look at our predictions and the outcome of last week's grid games reveals that we were 87.5 per cent accurate in forecasting the team to win. As to our scores that's a different story. We'd rather not discuss that. Dusting off the ball for another look-see we find: ANAHEIM plays the Santa Ana Saints Friday night in Santa Ana. Both are fresh from Sunset League opening victories, Anaheim beating the Westminster Lions 19-0 (we hear they left Westminster Lion on the ground) and Santa Ana nudging Western by a point, 13-12. Our ball is a little fuzzy on this one — it could go either way — but we say SANTA ANA by 1. Loara VS Corona del Mar tonight at La Palma Stadium at 8. If Loara doesn't win this one by at least 14 points, there must be something drastically wrong with the Saxon camp. Corona del Mar has never won a game in its two years of existence. LOARA by 20. MAGNOLIA VS Garden Grove, Friday night at La Palma, 8 p.m. Here we have the only team that dared to foul up my fearless (??) forecasting last week. Garden Grove was beaten by Santiago, 13-7. Magnolia coach Don Lent says Magnolia lacks weight and Garden by an average of man. Besides, they us last week so we GROVE BY 14. SERVITE VS Burd Ridgeway. Servite straight pre-league far and we have to forecast a fourth by 14. SANTA ANA COLLEGE San Antonio College are good but lookingords so far we have slight edge to Mt. Servite has three straight pre-league victories so far and we have no reason not to forecast a fourth. SERVITE by 14. SANTA ANA COLLEGE VS Mt. San Antonio College. Both teams are good but looking at their records so far we have to give a slight edge to Mt. SAC. Look for a possible upset though. Santa Ana never gives up. MT, SAC by 2. FULLERTON JUNIOR COLLEGE VS ORANGE COAST COLLEGE, Fullerton Stadium, Saturday night, 8 p.m. This is the game of the week. Fullerton isn't quite up to par this year and OCC is. In fact OCC is the league leader in the Eastern Conference so far. OCC by 6. WESTERN HIGH VS Newport Harbor, Saturday night, La Palma Stadium, 8 p.m. Western can play some mighty fine ball when it puts its mind to it. We think this will be the case Saturday. This will be Western's second Sunset League start. WESTERN by 12. And there you have it sports fans, our infallible predictions. Magnificent Defense Brea, 10-year Orange League champion and defending "A" champ, was surprised at the aggressive Saxon defensive unit when penetrated the Wildcat line seemingly easy. In addition to holding the Wildcats scoreless for the first half, coach Herb Hill's scrambling Saxons didn't allow Brea to the 50 yard line in the first half. Saxons Start Scoring The evening's first tally was recorded late in the first stanza when quarterback Dick Armstrong fired an aerial to halfback Dave Dykes, who sprinted 36 yards to the end zone. Brea Takes Lead The Wildcats finally scored in mid-third quarter when quarterback Jeff Matlock bulled one yard, climaxing a 54 yard drive. Coach Vanhoorebeke was made a member of the Sports Trail Century Club for his record of 102 victories in Football. Honorary Group The club is an honorary group open to all college and high school coaches whose teams have won 100 or more contests in any sport. Originated several years ago by high school Coach William Matthei of Milwaukee, Wis., the Sports Trail Century Club is based on the concept that good coaches help make good citizens. "Successful coaching of athletic teams develops in young men a fine competitive spirit, an early appreciation of fair play, and a sense of responsibility." said Raymond A. Van Dyke, director of the club and an executive of Bike. The characteristics that make a winning team are the characteristics that build better citizenship." Van Dyke said that while constant recognition and praise are given to a few coaches, the great majority sometimes receive little thanks for their laborious job. He said that for these reasons Bike Web was happy to make the award to Coach Vanhoorebeke for his outstanding achievement in school sports.
