20 Anaheim School By GEORGIANNA JOINSEN "Coo-coo bird sits on the old gum tre-e-e—" A normal beginning for 32 students in the fourth grade at Clara Barton Elementary School in Anaheim. However, about 10 minutes later, two 21 inch television sets are turned on and these same children are engrossed in a charming TV program. Unusual? Regular classroom work precedes and follows tele-lesson. After each tele-lesson, the students return to classroom work with great enthusiasm. A good instructional telecast takes full advantage of the unique audio-visual characteristics of the television medium and can provide a kind of learning opportunity not possible in the regular classroom teaching situation. Off Riverside Freeway In Schools Using TV in district schools which now employ the audio-visual form of edutational television in classrooms Project Expands From its beginnings, when the ecasts were limited to pupils grades four and five in only 12 tools, the project has grown each year, and now provides televised instruction in a large number of subjects for all pupils in grades three through six. The televised lesson presentations vary in length from about 10 to 25 minutes, and is designed to serve as an intregel part of the over-all lesson and study for the school day in the particular subject involved. Each tele-lesson is preceeded and followed by appropriate classroom instruction directed by the classroom teacher. In no instance is the tele-lesson intended to replace the eteacher or to replace essmore appropriate classstruction, ach method is ed to reinforce and supother, and are both meanvide an expanded, increportunity for learning.
