20 Anaheim School
By GEORGIANNA JOINSEN
"Coo-coo bird sits on the old gum tre-e-e—"
A normal beginning for 32 students in the fourth grade at Clara Barton Elementary School in Anaheim.
However, about 10 minutes later, two 21 inch television sets are turned on and these same children are engrossed in a charming TV program.
Unusual? Not at all, for Barton is only one of the 20 Anaheim Photos By Georgianna Johnsen
Students in Miss Barbara Harris' Fourth-grade class at Clara Barton School eagerly await their tele-lesson for the day. Lessons come over closed circuit from ITV studios in Anaheim.
Students in Miss Barbara Harris' Fourth-grade class at Clara Barton School eagerly await their tele-lesson for the day. Lessons come over closed circuit from ITV studios in Anaheim.
Students follow television instruction with individual work-books in the classroom. Regular classroom work precedes and follows tele-lesson.
Fourth-Grade students Ralph Wright and Geraldine Lupack follow tele-lesson instructor Miss Jeanne Rose with class-room counterpart Miss Barbara Harris. Miss Rose is on TV screen.

After each tele-lesson, the students return to classroom work with great enthusiasm. A good instructional telecast takes full advantage of the unique audio-visual characteristics of the television medium and can provide a kind of learning opportunity not possible in the regular classroom teaching situation.

Project Expands
From its beginnings, when the
ecasts were limited to pupils
grades four and five in only 12
tools, the project has grown
each year, and now provides televised instruction in a large number of subjects for all pupils in
grades three through six.
The televised lesson presentations vary in length from about
10 to 25 minutes, and is designed
to serve as an intregel part of
the over-all lesson and study for
the school day in the particular
subject involved.
Each tele-lesson is preceeded
and followed by appropriate classroom instruction directed by the
classroom teacher.
In no instance is the tele-lesson intended to replace the eteacher or to replace essmore appropriate classstruction, ach method is
ed to reinforce and supother, and are both meanvide an expanded, increportunity for learning.
