Disneyland Sets June 1 As Band Date
In a spectacular summer inaugural, Disneyland will stage its second annual "Cavalcade of Big Bands" June 1 with five of the Nation's greatest dance bands.
The music of Gene Krupa, Les Brown, Lionel Hampton, Charlie Barnet and the Elliott Brothers, greatest collection of big name bands in Southern California' history, will be added to all the regular nighttime fun at Disneyland on June 1 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The bands will play at five dance locations throughout the "Magic Kingdom" for the special party.
"Cavalcade" will bring drummer-man Gene Krupa to the West Coast for the first time in many years. Famous since he first starred with Benny Goodman 25 years ago, Krupa's own band of top musicians has long been among the nation's favorite's.
Topping the dance band polls for many years has been Les Brown's Band. In addition to a long association with Bob Hope, Brown's "Band of Reknown" is one of the nation's top television and recording groups.
Featured with the band are vocalists Butch Stone, Stumpy Brown and Susan Maro.

ITS Phoneminder on Way
Imperial Thermal Systems, Inc., of Buena Park has made its initial production delivery of Phoneminder-Secretary telephone communication systems, it has been announced by Floyd Clark, President and Board Chairman of ITS. The original contract for $% million, negotiated and signed earlier last quarter, is expected to be increased shortly with national follow-up orders.
Clark stated that the ITS mer is Phonomatic, Inc., Angeles based telephone communications organization which now distributing the Phonemier equipment nationally independent companies specialists. The Phonomer-Secretary is a newly developed automatic electronic tele answering system designed individual use. It records messages and automatically backs up information.

Colonist Voted One of Women In SAC Rites
Forty-four outstanding Santa Ana College women leaders in academic achievement, campus service and the performing arts will be honored at the traditional Women of the Year ceremonies on Friday, May 31.
By vote of the women, the ten top women will receive additional recognition and the surprise announcement at the Phillips Hall ceremony will be presentation of the trophy for the outstanding "woman of the year."
To be honored in the top ten will be from Santa Ana, Lolly De War, Lilian Griffiths, Mary Horton, Kerry Kona, Lorraine Leahy, Dolores Mason, Mary Ellen More, Petrina Noor and Nanci Page, and Carole Bouchard, Anaheim.
Women nominees were selected by the spring semester Associated Women Students and women faculty members. Dean of Students Miss Isabelle Rollstabb is AWS adviser.
College women also will honor three returning faculty members for long service to campus women's groups. They are Miss Lota Blythe, English; Miss Frances Egge, art; and Miss Dorothy Decker, business.
Angels Return To Home Stand
The Los Angeles Angels return from a two week road trip to open their third home stand of the 1963 season Friday night, May 24, against the vastly-improved Kansas City Athletics. Fifteen games
Three new officers will enjoy initial installation ceremonies Saturday, May 5, for the Anaheim Branch of American Association of University Women when they join with three others continuing in office for the organization.

Clark stated that the ITS customer is Phonomatic, Inc., a Los Angeles based telephone communications organization which is now distributing the Phoneminder equipment nationally through independent communications specialists. The Phoneminder-Secretary is a newly developed automatic electronic telephone answering system designed for individual use. It records incoming messages and automatically plays back from any remote location.
Because of this added business, it was necessary to establish a Phoneminder Division of ITS in a separate building and to develop a new production line which is independent of the firms principal business... that of engineering and the production of electronic thermal and control systems.
President of Phonomatic, Inc., Marvin Rudin, has advised Clark that their potential orders now exceed several million dollars. These additional new orders are the result of a previous business development program instituted last year, and are being received from the major population centers throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico... Distribution and sales development in Europe, now in preliminary negotiation stages... and with overseas marketing firms including operations in England, France, West Germany and Italy.
Desert Movie For Children

Angels Return To Home Stand
The Los Angeles Angels return from a two week road trip to open their third home stand of the 1963 season Friday night, May 24, against the vastly-improved Kansas City Athletics. Fifteen games will be played, against five American League opponents, three of whom will be making their first visit of the year to Chavez Ravine.
Chicago and Minnesota will be making their second appearances during the stand.
For the first time, local fans will get a look at the Athletics' flashy new green and gold uniforms. Kansas City will be in for night games at 8:00 p.m. on May 24 and 25 and a Sunday matinee at 1:30 p.m. on May 26.
The Detroit Tigers invade the Ravine for night games May 28 and 29 and a 1:30 p.m. contest Thursday, May 30, followed by the Orioles the nights of May 31 and June 1 and a Sunday matinee June 2. The White Sox are in for night games on June 3 and 4 and a 6:00 p.m. twi-night doubleheader June 5. The Twins close things out with arc contests June 7 and a Sunday day game June 9.
The doubleheader on June 5 with Chicago has been scheduled in order to make up the rain-postponed game here between the two clubs Easter Sunday, April 14.
A highlight of the coming home stand will be the annual sports-preliminary which will be played starting at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Angels - Orioles game on Saturday June 1. Last year, the sports-writers—sportscasters three-inning casters won 6-3. Again this season the winner will meet Nat King Cole's Movie All-Stars in another three-inning spectacular — Saturday night, Aug. 3 prior to the Angels-Chicago game.
SAC's El Don Takes Honors
El Don, All-American weekly newspaper at Santa Ana College, has won two more first place awards in college journalism, competition according to journalist chairman Carl Venstrom.

In an impressive candle-light ceremony, the officers of the Broadway Clinic Hospital Guild have taken office for the coming year and initiated plans for the season.
Officers elected for the season were Mdmes: Charles Mason, president; Robert Meade, vice president; John Kuna, secretary; and Ewald Dargatz, treasurer.
Mrs. Mason announced the following appointments as chairmen of special committee effort: Mdmes. Gustov Popke, chairman of the day; M. R. Crowder, social; James H. Morrissey, Year Book and his Jack C. Lines, ways and methods and public relations.
The Broadway Clinic H is located at 1600 West Brookland and the Guild meets the Wednesday of each month on hospital cafeteria. Meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.

The installing officer for the occasion will be the distinguished guest, Mrs. Myron L. Gazin, Councilwoman of the City of Hermosa Beach. Mrs. Gazin has been in office since 1959 and served as mayor of the city in 1961-1962.
Mrs. Gazin is an active member of AAUW as member of the state committee on Status of Women. As a result of graduate work in journalism and political science at the University of Minnesota, she has worked as news reporter for papers in St. Petersburg, Florida, Dayton, Ohio and Minnesota. She is presently city council representative to the Southwest area committee of the regional planning commission of Los Angeles County.

Also on the program as entertainment will be Miss Sarena Alyssso, a young Latin American dancer, and pianist, Miss Linda Jackson. Miss Allyssso is the audition winner at the Mary Guivits dance studio of Riverside. The International Relations study section has been studying our Latin American neibhors this past year.
Arrangements for the luncheon have been made by Mrs. Selwyn P. Ramsay, Chairman. Committee women assisting her have been Mrs. J. Faulkner Clay, program; Mrs. Robert Davis, reservations, and Ms. Edgar B. Shockly, J. competing plans for flowers and decorations.

USS WINSTON — Phillip B. Ray, quartermaster third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gordon Ray of 10651 Chamberlain Dr., Anaheim, is now serving on board the attack cargo ship, USS Winston, operating out of San Diego, Calif.
Before entering the Navy in May 1968, 0Ray attended Western High School.

Anaheim to Get UCLA Art Unit
Two special programs in the fine arts will head the list of University of California Extension subjects to be offered in Orange County this summer.
"Spoon River Anthology," a play for Voices, originally written by Edgar Lee Masters and adapted for Extension's Theatre Group by Lamont Johnson will be given Sunday June 9 at 8:30 p.m. in the John C. Fremont Junior High School Auditorium in Anaheim.
"The Arts on Film: Views of a Film-Maker," a lecture-film showing may be attended as a series of five evenings, or taken as a University credit courses. Robert Snyder, Academy Award winning Producer and Director will analyze the role of the arts on film and the art of film in a mass culture. As illustration for his lecture he will use both complete film and excerpts, to help establish a criteria for judging the cinema. Artists and their art forms will also be discussed, including Michelangelo, Pablo Casals, Matisse, Stravensky, Martha Graham and Frank Lloyd Wright, among others.
