Fantasy Ball Queen Is Savanna Student
Chosen as the most outstanding Tri Hi-Y girl from the Savanna, Magnolia and Western High Schools, Miss Jane Ann Callies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Callies, was named Queen of the Fantasy Ball in a regal ceremony elimaxing the formal dinner dance at the Charter House Ball room.
Announcement of the honorees from each school, and the name of the finalist from among the three was made by Charles Woodall, Master-of-Ceremonies for the evening.
Voted by Tri Hi-Y members in each school as their choice for top honors were Miss Mary Hopkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Granville Hopkins, candidate from the Y-Amies of Magnolia High School; Miss Juanita Tater, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Tater, candidate from the Y-Sigma Phis of Western High School; and Miss Callies, candidate from the Forever Y's of Savanna High. Miss Callies was then chosen by an adult committee as the girl who represented the finest Tri Hi-Y girl from the three high schools.
Jane Ann has been active in Tri Hi-Y since her 7th grade year in school, first joining a Jr. Tri Hi-Y club at Brookhurst. She has retained her active membership throughout her six years in secondary school, and has carried every major office in her club, serving as President of Forever Y's this past year.
She has an enviable record of participation in both regular club events as well as special projects sponsored by her club, always ranking among those who have carried the "extra" loads according to Mrs. Nan Moore, Girls Program Director. She has been a camper at Camp Osceolas as well as a Camp Counselor, and plans to continue her relationship with the YMCA next year by serving as advisor to a 10th grade club she is now assisting to organize at Brookhurst Jr. High. Mrs. Moore describes Jane Ann as an outstanding student at Savanna High School, active in her church, and a talented teacher of dance and baton. Within the past two years she has had several offers to enter the professional world, including an opportunity to dance with the San Francisco Ballet. She has chosen instead to put a higher priority on her school activities, serving as Cheer Leader at Savanna this year, and to carry her Y club presidency. Her leadership toward creating Christian standards in all areas of her life has been obvious to all who have been associated with her, Mrs. Moore declared.
Dinner at the Charter House for the Savanna, Magnolia, Western Tri Hi-Y girls and their escorts is hosted annually by the West Anaheim YMCA Women's Committee of which Mrs. Charles Woodall has been President for the past two years.
