Amateurs May Enter Roses In May Event
Amateur gardeners for this area are invited to compete for trophies, ribbons and other awards in the eighth free rose show in the "Pageant of Roses Garden" at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
Sponsored by the Rio San Gabriel Rose Society and Rose Hills, the show will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12, in observance of Mother's Day.
John van Barneveld, director of the American Rose Society's Southwest District and rosarian at Rose Hills, will be show chairman. He has announced that entries will be received at the Garden between 7 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. Following the judging, the show will be open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. that day from Sunday, May 12. There will be no entry, admission or parking charges.

Unusual shots of climbing the seldom visited St. Elias mountain range in northwestern Canada will be shown by Bud Bingham when he brings his color slides to the Orange County Group of the Sierra Club on Tuesday, May 7. An enthusiastic mountain climber, Bingham has been a Sierra Club member for nine years and is active in the Sierra Peaks Section. Accompanying him Tuesday will be his wife, Bep (cq) a native of Holland, who shares his mountain climbing interest.

WE wish to sincerely thank all of our relatives, friends, and neighbors for their kind and beautiful expressions of sympathy and concern in the loss of our beloved husband, father, son-in-law, and brother-in-law, Captain Ralph C. Rich, USAF, who passed away one month ago on 29 March 1963. Memorial services were held on 1 April 1963 at the Base Chapel at Hamilton Air Force Base, California, with the Rev. N. J. Bangert of The Lutheran Church of The Resurrection, Terra Linda, conducting the service together with Chaplain, Major D. J. Kalal of Hamilton AFB. Full military honors were accorded at the Chapel service as well as at the Interment service held the following morning at the Golden Gate U. S. National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.
