Junior Ebells to Help With Seals, Mexicans
The Junior Ebell Club of Anaheim will hold its general meeting on Feb. 5, at 7:45, in the Ebell clubhouse.
Welfare chairman, Mrs. Jack Louis, stated the evening has been designated as work night and the members will stuff envelopes for the Eastern Seal Foundation. All members are urged to dress informally and come help with this worthwhile project.
Conservation chairman, Mrs. Albert Burton, will also introduce a Anaheim Students Hold Scholarships
Long Beach State College students hold 172 scholarships with a total value of $29,470 this year.
The scholarship list, announced by Carl Grounds, counselor in charge of financial aid, includes 159 students. Eleven of them won two scholarships each, and one coed has three.
Civic groups, schools and school organizations, women's clubs and business firms awarded most of the scholarships.
Scholarship winners, and the organizations presenting their grants, include the following Anaheim students:
James Cowee, 1513 E. Elm, Long Bach Credit Club; Linda Hafield, 225 E. Wilhelmina, Marthin Schaepe Memorial Foundation; Kathy Lanyon, 1151 Hazelwood, Downtown Kiwanis Club; and Joe Ann Melnechuk, 2541 W. Heffron Dr., Retail Clerks Union Local 324.
Speaker from the forestry service. He will explain the tree planting project, at Capistrano Beach, that the club will be participating in on Feb. 16.
Tea chairman for the evening will be Mrs. John McGrew, and her committee will include Mimes, Gary Lindell, Richard Jewel, Donald Ludwig, Alex MacDonald, Charles Marrs, William Martin, William Matteson, and Carl Montera.
Mrs. Jay Harris, international affairs chairman, and her committee, will be collecting used items for needy families in Mexico at the Ebell Clubhouse, 244 Helena, Anaheim, Feb. 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This will be on the regular welfare section meeting night and many of the members will be there to assist anyone contributing. Mrs. Gordon Haskins will be the hostess for the evening.
Needed items include: children's clothing, canned foods, toys, medical supplies, sewing materials, paper, pencils, crayons, dishes, cooking utensils, shoes, small appliances, etc. It is suggested that no large, bulky items be donated, since there is no way of transporting them.
Everyone with items to donate is urged to come to the clubhouse on this evening. The club will arrange to pick up donations if desired. For further information, please call PRespect 4-1524.
Patrolman Joseph F. Miranda and his wife will transport the donated items to Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Miranda have been participating in this worthwhile project for many years.

Institute Sees C
Following the meeting of Institute 109 in the Old Hall, viewed a film, "Time Women," loaned by the County Cancer Society. This was shown by Miss Mary Lambert with a question swer period following.
The film is part of an educational program of the American Cancer Society to alert all their personal responsibilities problem of cancer.

New Classes for Winter Program
With the naheim Park and Recreation Department winter program already underway, the Department wishes to announce that new classes, ranging from tap and ballet to social dance will be starting within a few weeks.
Anaheim Youth Symphony Orchestra
The symphony gives young musicians an opportunity to participate with other talented students in orchestra work. Two exceptionally qualified instructors, Richard Marino, music director of Loara High School and H. Robert Reynolds, member of Long Beach State College Music staff will direct and instruct the symphony.
This group was established four years ago and was rated “excellent” by the Southern California School Board and Orchestra Association last year. Members are accepted by audition only.
Membership is open to those students enrolled in the Anaheim schools; both public and private; also the Magnolia School District. Other qualifications include: must audition before acceptance into the orchestra; must have two full years of study on their own instrument and musicians trying for membership should be prepared to play one piece of their own choice and sight read two pieces of the director's choice.
Mondays: Dr. Albert Schweitzer Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room Registration will be taken on Jan. 21; classes will begin on Monday, Jan. 28.
Class Time:
3:30 to 4:30 p.m. — 6,7,8 year olds
4:30 to 5:30 p.m. — 9-12 year olds
Saturday: Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room Registration will be taken on Jan. 26; classes will begin on Saturday, Feb. 2.
Class Time:
9 to 10 a.m. — 6 and 7 year olds
10 to 11 a.m. — 8 and 9 year olds
11 to Noon — 10 thru 12 year olds
Children's Dance Theatre
Here is an opportunity for young people to participate in theatre dance work which combines contemporary dance with traditional classical ballet. Original choreography will be part of the class work.
The classes will be held once a week for twelve weeks. The Park and Recreation Department stated that dancers will be accepted only by audition. A spring concert will be held with the Youth Symphony Orchestra upon completion of the series.
The requirements state that those interested in the dance theatre must have at least one year of dance (ballet or modern) and that tap dance will not be acceptable noon at Fremont Jr. High School Music Room. Fee for series, which will be held on week for 12 weeks is $5.
Children interested in the program are reminded that must be third graders or older for auditioning.
Slim 'n Trim
This class, offered once a week for eight weeks gives you the opportunity for one hour of exercise with one hour of volleyball. Only a limited number of registrations will be taken for this class.
The opening class has been for Feb. 5, from 7:45 to 9:45 at Savanna High School Cafe. Fee for the series is $1.50 second class (Wed.) has been for Feb. 6 from 7:45 to 9:45 at Brookhurst Jr. High School Gym. Fee is the same.

(Beginners — for couples only)
Come on out and learn dancing steps in fox waltz, swing, rhumba, tango, boo and cha cha. The classes are held once a week for eight weeks.
The starting date is Feb. (Thursday) at 7 to 8:30 p.m. (class) and 8:30 to 10 p.m. (second class) at Fremont Jr. School Cafe. Fee for the series is $8.

First Aid To Be In Driver Class
Anaheim residents are on the move in getting themselves prepared for any eventuality, according to Dr. Richard Kaywood, head of the driver's education program in the Anaheim Union High School.
Recently the national organization of the Red Cross authorized Dr. Kaywood to serve the Anaheim Chapter as an Instructor Trainer with specific responsibility for giving first aid training to the teachers of the health and education program in the district, thus enabling all students to earn a Standard First Aid certificate.
A new first aid class opened Monday at Brookhurst Junior High School. Classes are from 7-9 p.m. Calvin Johnson, an outstanding instructor, will conduct the course.
Membership is open to those students enrolled in the Anaheim schools; both public and private; also the Magnolia School District. This class will offer basic fundamental steps of tap and ballet will be taught. You are reminded to register your child at the day, time and hour you want him/her to attend class. This will assure everyone a fair chance of getting his youngster enrolled. Advance registration will not be taken.

Institute 109 Sees Cancer Film
Following the meeting members of Institute 109 in the Odd Fellows Hall, viewed a film, "Time and 2 Women," loaned by the Orange County Cancer Society. The film was shown by Miss Mary Jean Lambert with a question and answer period following.

Mrs. Bart Pasini presided over the meeting Mrs. Jrome McKenna, chairman of the Cord Rosary next meeting will be held Monday evening, Feb. 11 in the home of Mrs. Roy Phelps, 62 Roma Vista, 2627 E. La Palma, Anaheim. New members are especially invited to attend. Cord Rosaries and scrap books for hospitalized children are always in demand, said the chairman.

A benefit Hat Show is planned for Monday evening, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall, 325 W. Center St., Anaheim. Proceeds will be donated for the care of an ill baby who is in need of hospitalization and medical care. Friends are invited to attend.
Mrs. Ray Hudson, district deputy, announced that the annual conference will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24th in San Pedro with details to be announced later.
