Savanna High To Stage First Drama of Year Savanna High School's first drama production of the year, "Night of January 16th." will be presented at Fremont Junior High School at Torium Saturday night at 8:15. This stirring courtroom drama, written by Ayn Rand, better known as a novelist ("Fountainhead") employs a large cast including twelve jurors chosen from the audience who will actually deliberate and decide the verdict. Miss Rand cleverly has written two endings to the play — one for either possible verdict. Heading the cast are: Chris Worth as Karen Andre, the defendant; Ralph Dawkins as the prosecutor; Jay Jones as the defense attorney; and a variety of coloful witnesses played by Anne Stevens, Ralph Anell, Dee Hultquist, Paul Wilson, Melissa Clarke, Chuck Goven, and Len Burnett. The play is under the direction of Martin Brandt, assisted by student director Denise Amato. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $1.00 for adults. 75 cents for students. Future plans for Savanna's Drama Department include "Tender Trap" slated for February and "The Diary of Anne Frank" planned for May. 'Las Posadas' In Third Week "Las Posadas" begins the third week of an eight-week run at Padua Hills Theatre today. The story of Christmas in Old 'Las Posadas' In Third Week "Las Posadas" begins the third week of an eight-week run at Padua Hills Theatre today. The story of Christmas in Old Mexico is now in its 31st consecutive annual season featuring the world renowned Mexican Players. "Las Posadas" was chosen as the name for this play of Christmas time in Old Mexico because the songs, processions, and ceremonies now known throughout Mexico as "Las Posadas" are an important part of Christmas in the land south of American border. The Spanish word "posada" means shelter, an inn, a place to stay. And the songs represent the Holy Mother and Joseph going from door to door seeking posada before the birth of the Christ child. The three-act play includes a play-within-the-play, Panchita's dream of the Nativity. Both humor and pathos are also developed as a humble Mexican family undergoes a crisis before Christmas. Breaking the pinata is on of the many happy moments within the production, which is a delightful Yuletide excursion into the customs of another nation. "Las Posadas" is presented six times weekly, Wednesday through Saturday, The Mexican Players also entertain in the dining room of nonprofit Padua Institute daily except Mondays. 'Miracle Worker' Set by CC Guild "The Miracle Worker" will be presented by the Chapman College Great Films Guild on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, December 12 and 13, at 8 p.m. in the Orange Theater. "The Miracle Worker" will be presented by the Chapman College Great Films Guild on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, December 12 and 13, at 8 p.m. in the Orange Theater. Based on the early years in the life of Helen Keller, the film marks one of the few occasions when a Broadway play has been successfully transferred to the screen. This success is due largely to the fact that the movie was made by the same talented persons who were responsible for the play's Broadway triumph — writer William Gibson, director Arthur Penn, producer Fred Coe, and stars Patty Duke as Helen Keller and Anne Bancroft as Annie Sullivan, her first teacher. In reviewing the film for The Commonweal, critic Philip T. Hartung described it as "one of the few movies that succeed in making things of the mind more exciting than spectacular pageantry and action". Two Chapman College chemistry professors are among the six newly-elected officers of the Orange County Section of the American Chemical Society. Dr. Peter Coad, professor of chemistry and chairman of the Division of Natural Sciences, is the president-elect and his wife, Dr. Raylene Coad, assistant professor of chemistry, is a councillor.
