ANAHEIM GAZETTE Wednesday, October 17, 1962 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA JOHN EDGAR HOOKER DIRECTOR Federal Bureau of Investigation United States Department of Justice Washington, D.C. October 3, 1962 Honorable Virgil Pinkley Editor and Publisher Associated Desert and Pacific Newspapers 45-140 Towne Street Indio, California Dear Virgin: I have received your letter of September and deeply appreciate your very generous comments. It was indeed a pleasure to send you a graphed copy of my new book, "A Study of Communism." I am certainly glad to hear that you intend to carry out it in your newspapers and on your Sunday broadsides, my feeling that one of the most important factors in communism is an informed citizenry, and I do hope this book will help toward this end. Your interest in brief study on this subject to the attention of your listeners and the readers of your newspapers is most encouraging. Of course, it is highly important that people be educated to recognize communism as a threat to our freedom and, therefore, there are also two text editions of "A Study of Communism" which are designed to be used in either high schools or colleges. SOUTHERN COUNTIES GAS COMPANY Former Congress Candidate Gives Nod To Nixon Appointment of Mrs. Harriett Enderle, 1954 Congressional nominee on the Democratic ticket, a chairman of the Orange County Democrats for Nixon for Governor Committee, was announced this week by County Nixon leaders O. W. "Dick" Richard and Walter Schmid. In announcing the appointment, Richard and Schmid said that "This can be taken as an indication that those of us who have studied the situation are placing the good of our nation above party politics. We want better government in California". In accepting the appointment, Mrs. Enderle said she had been "disappointed in Governor Brown at various times. I do not believe he represents the Jeffersonian Democrat philosophy which I support." "I did not agree with Governor Brown when he did not use his position of power to help Adlai Stevenson secure the nomination at the 1960 Democratic Convention in Los Angeles, but instead turned his back on this man who had waged two hard campaigns for the party against General Eisenhower, an undefeatable candidate. I felt then, and feel now that Democrats owed the nomination to Adlai Stevenson, and that Governor Brown betrayed the high principles that would have given the nomination to Stevenson. In addition, there have been many occasions when Governor Brown's philosophy seemed diametrically opposed to the good..." "CONTEMPO" E & MERRITT for that built-in look. This versatile res? Workers To Vote At Autonetics Approximately 10,000 employees of Autonetics Division, North American Aviation, will go to the polls Friday to decide whether each employee should share in individual responsibility as well as in benefits. Friday's election, recommended by President Kennedy's special aerospace panel, will end nearly six months of negotiations between the UAW and North American. The issue in Friday's election is whether the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement workers of America, should be the bargaining agent for all North American Aviation employees. Speaking was MSgt. Buster P Kidder of the U. S. Army Recruiting Station in Anaheim, following a recent encounter with a nine year old boy brought to the station by his mother. "The child wanted to know, 'What is a soldier?'" "The mother," Sgt. Kidder said, "told me, 'Both my father and husband have served with the United States Army but I can't give my boy an answer that seems to satisfy him." "Sensing her dilemma and realizing that many other parents may be faced with a similar question from their own youngsters ... especially now that news headlines tell of possible new Reserve call ups..." Sgt. Kidder mused, "I knew my answer would not be just for this child alone." For an answer the recruiting sergeant dug into his memory and remembered what "old sergeants" had told him during his ANAHEIM GAZETTE TELEPHONE: PR 2-1800 Published Wednesday of each week at 250 East Center Street Anaheim, California Legal Adjudication No. A 22441 VIRGIL PINKLEY, Editor and Publisher ANAHEIM GAZETTE TELEPHONE: PR 2-1800 Published Wednesday of each week at 259 East Center Street Anaheim, California Legal Adjudication No. A 22441 VIRGIL PINKLEY, Editor and Publisher Entered as second class mail matter under the act of March 3, 1879.
