ANAHEIM – the Hu OCC Musical Is Biggest Yet Brilliantly colored settings, designed to recreate the grandeur of Venice during the Italian Renaissance, will make "Kiss Me Kate" the biggest production in the history of Orange Coast College, according to Lucian Scott, director. Built entirely by college drama students especially for the O.C.C. production, scenes will include a plaza in Padua with terraces, steps, balconies and archways. Another striking scene will depict the exterior of the church in Renaissance Italy. Petruchio's house will be depicted in vivid Mediterranean colors. The final scene, Baptista's House, will be the most elaborate scene in the show. Other scenes will show the stage of the Ford Theatre in Baltimore, the dressing rooms of the stars of the play, and the theatre alley. George Archambeault has been in charge of staging the show. Scene design was done by Richard Odle. Chief of stage construction was Art Koustik; stage manager is Ed Escobar; and color design specialist was Angelo Canzoneri. Bruce Piner of the college art department was a consultant in color design. Tickets for all performances, Aug. 1, 2, 3 and 4, are available for $1.50 at the college box office. Anaheim Men Are Kwikset Makes New Record in Safety Mail Movement Improved Here Anaheim Men Are Shell Oil Grads Two Anaheim men were graduated recently from Shell Oil Company's retail training center on completion of advanced studies in petroleum product retailing. They are William H. Southam, 1732 Santa Ana St., and Jerry K. Spatz, 544 South Ohio St. Both men are employed in Anaheim service stations. Walter Skoglund, district sales supervisor, presented them with certificates of graduation during special ceremonies at the Disneyland Hotel. La Habra Corn Festival—Aug. 4. The Lions Club buys up an entire sweet corn farm nearby and serves up 50,000 ears, hot and buttered. Corn floats, bands and Western riders make up the parade. A Queen of the Corn Festival is crowned. Kwikset Makes New Record in Safety Over the 100,000 man-hour mark without a lost time accident is the record of the final assembly and cylinder departments of Kwikset Division, manufacturers of residential locksets in Anaheim. Both departments hold prevailer also passed the 2,000-day records of 1,000 days without a lost time accident. Several other Kwikset departments hold the 1,000-day mark, including the die cast, punch press, plating, maintenance, powdered metal, tool and die and specialty (the mark). Individual awards are presented to the employees as their de-the company safety committee. Partments reach the goals set by Kwikset has the distinction of winning first place, for metal fabrication companies, from the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National Safety Council for both 1960 and 1961. Mail Movement Improved Here As a result of some improvements in the mail transport schedules, the Anaheim Post office is now receiving a quarter of first class mail at 7:30 a.m. that was formerly received noon of the same day, it was nounced by Postmaster Mark N. McFie. To take advantage of this proved service so that all mail received in the morning be delivered the same day leaving time of the carriers been changed to 9 a.m. It was also pointed out by postmaster that those patrons ceiving their mail through office boxes can be sure of ting all of the morning mail calling at the post office at 9 However, the mail formerly ceived in the morning will still available in the boxes at 8 as usual, Postmaster McFiecluded. Press Photos to Be Shown At Museum The top prize newspaper photographs of 1961 will be shown at the Charles W. Bowers Memorial Museum, Santa Ana. This is the 19th Annual Competition and exhibition of the National Press Photographers Association. Sponsors of the contest are the World Book Encyclopedia and the University of Missouri School of Journalism. The photos will be shown from Aug. 3 through Aug. 30, 1962. Museum hours are: Daily except Mondays, 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sundays, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday Evenings 7:00 to 9:00. There is no admission fee. YMCA Camp Deadline Set According to Bill Poirier, YMCA general secretary, Aug. 3 are the last two days children may sign up for the Anahiem YMCA Day Camp. Both boys girls from 6 through 10 are eligible to participate in Day Camp. The last period is August 6-10. But will pick up children near the home for anyone living in the Ainaheim, Stanton, Cypress, and Roemoor areas. Each day a different trip park will be visited by the Campers, and a big surprise will be taken on Wednesday. Thursday all the campers their leaders will spend an hour at O'Neil Park. Ph. 571-6634 the Hub of Happiness – at a Council Okays Two East City Gas Stations In June the Planning Commission of the City of Anaheim went on record as "opposing the distribution of commercial facilities on all corners of the intersection of Rio Vista Street and Lincoln Avenue but that all commercial facilities be concentrated at the northwest corner." Last week the City Council chose to ignore that recommendation and to allow the construction of two gas stations on the southeast and southwest corners of Rio Vista Street and Lincoln Avenue. Members of the Rio Vista Homeowners Association had presented two petitions to the council protesting the development of gas stations on those corners. One had 731 signatures, the other 695. Commenting on the action of the council, Councilman Chuck Chandler said that Anaheim had developed rather strangely as far as the freeway situation was concerned. "We have a great number of through highways," he said. "There is a freeway network in the city that makes it entirely different from other cities its size." "The road there (Lincoln Ave.) seems to be lightly traveled now but it will become a through boulevard from Long Beach Blvd. through the Peralta Hills development and connect with the Santa Ana Canyon freeway." City Announces Three Jobs Open Written examinations will be given August 11 for three openings in Anaheim civic supervision agencies. Building Inspector The city needs a building inspector who must be a high school graduate and who must have either four years of experience in general contracting or have been a journeyman in general construction work or be a graduate civil engineer with emphasis on structural engineering in lieu of the experience. The salary begins at $570 and climbs to $693 in three years. Radio Technician A radio technician is also needed. He must be a high school graduate with three years experience in operation and maintenance of radio equipment and must have a Federal Communications Commission first class radio-telephone operators license. The salary for this position begins at $517 and climbs to $628 in three years. Park Foreman A third opening, that of park foreman, is also being advertised. He must be a high school graduate with two years experience in park work and general horticulture. He must have had at least one year of general supervisory experience. The salary for this office is $598 to $727. Only Few Days For Hunting Permits Only a few days remain until applications for this special Orange County deer hunt, the Department Fish and Game today renew sportsmen. Applications for permits to ticipate in the hunt must cease in the department cense office, 1325-A "K" St. Sacramento, no later than on Monday, Aug. 6. Applicants forms are attached to the deer tags, which may be obtained from any DFG office or license agent. The deaf diver previously won the junior Olympic Diving Championship of her district in Texas before coming to Anaheim.
