Yorba Linda Center Gets Planning Commission Nod
George M. Eltinge and George L. Graziadio, real estate developers have recently acquired the proposed 25-acr Yorba Linda District Buys River Water
The Orange County Water District is spending $1350 per day on Colorado River water in an attempt to fill underground reservoirs throughout the East Anaheim area.
The water is initially brought in from the Colorado River to the Carbon Canyon reservoir. From there it is pumped to the county reservoir at Orangethorne and Miller Streets.
Two underground channels, built by bond monies, take the water to two sections of the city.
Water flows from the Orange-thorpe-Miller reservoir at 50 cubic feet per second and sinks into the ground all the way down its course to the reservoir at Crescent and Gilbert Streets. At that point the flow is eight cubic feet a second.
In the second water spreading operation twenty cubic feet of water are sent down the southerly leg of the channel to the Santa Ana River, accounting for the deep water there.
Shopping Center property at the southwest corner of Yorba Linda Blvd. and Richfield Rd. in the city proper.
The developers have announced the signing of long-term leases with Alpha Beta Markets for a 20000 sq. ft. super market. Shell Oil company and other retail and service stores.
The shopping center will also be the location of the new Bank of Yorba Linda if the application for charger is granted by the Superintendent of California Banks.
The developers appeared before the county planning commission on July 3 at which time their plan was taken under submission. Since then it has been approved and sent on to the Board of Supervisors, which is expected to make a decision in the next two or three weeks.
George P. Karcher, vice president of Pacific Water company and customer and public relations consultant for the development said of the project, "One of the remarkable things to me is that there were no protests from the local residents.
"A large property owner to the east on Richfield Road appeared uninvited at the planning commission meeting and said that she thought this was perfect for commercial development and she would like to see the commission..."

"Just as an example," Mr Gotuso explained, "there will be one area designed just for families with small children. This area will include not only an outside play yard with wading pool, swings, slides and sand boxes, but an inside play area for cold or rainy weather as well.
"All areas will be landscaped and maintained by the management," Gottuso went on.
"Frankly," admitted Morton Rodin, other half of the developing team the number of people already calling for advance leasing reservations has been so far beyond expectations that we have already taken out permits for the next series. We have 400 apartments on the drawing boards right now and more in the planning stage."
Completion date for the first 70 units is set for the middle of August.

Ground Broken For Fire Station
City officials have broken ground for the fifth and are condemning property for the sixth and seventh fire stations planned for the greater Anaheim in the very near future.
At ceremonies at Broadway and Melrose Streets in East Anaheim last week Mayor Rox Coons declared the day another "Red letter day for the city of Anaheim."
The $328,000 new building will replace the present fire station on Broadway near Los Angeles St. and will house two engine companies, a truck company and a rescue truck.
The Broadway-Melrose location enables the city to cover a wide area of the city with fire protection and by its position eliminates the need for an additional branch station.
