GETTING READY FOR THE YOUNGSTERS — Lloyd Trapp, superintendent of the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department goes over some of the sports equipment that will be needed this summer when the 41,651 young-sters flock to the playgrounds. The 1961 tendance report showed that 203,820 young-sters took part in the summer sports and recreation program.
Rev. C. Cooper Back from Alaska
Rv. Calvin R. Cooper, associate minister of the West Anaheim Methodist Church, recently returned from "The Alaska Mission," a journey which took him to the Methodist Church located farbest north in the United States.
He was selected, along with a group of ministers throughout the Nation, to represent the National Board of Evangelism in Nashville.
Aerial Maps for Freeway Displayed
In order to afford all those interested an opportunity to become familiar with the various routes of be presented at the scheduled public hearing of April 19, pertaining to the proposed Pacific Coast Freeway (U.S. 101 Alternate), the State Division of Highways announced that copies of aerial maps and other exhibits showing the various routes are on display in the City Halls of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, at the KMPC's Fred Hessler broadcast the game starting Bruin Warmup at 6:30 p.m.

Rv. Calvin R. Cooper, associate minister of the West Anaheim Methodist Church, recently returned from "The Alaska Mission," a journey which took him to the Methodist Church located farthest north in the United States.
He was selected, along with a group of ministers throughout the Nation, to represent the National Board of Evangelism in Nashville, Tenn., by traveling throughout Alaska on a two-week mission to share in the work of the church with those ministers stationed in the Alaskan territory. Rev. Cooper was sent specifically to preach at the First Methodist Church in Fairbanks as well as appear on television and speak before local groups.
The last two days were spent at the new Alaska Methodist University in Anchorage where the men of the Mission met en masse with their hosts for evaluation.
The Fluor Corporation, Ltd. today released its 1961 annual report showing net earnings of $2,391,553 on sales of $128,821,589 for the fiscal year ended Oct. 31. Fiscal 1960 earnings were 1785,617 on sales of $84,875,242.
Engine Racers
Mickey Thompson Enterprises will join with sportsman Jim Kimberly and Harvey Aluminum as sponsors of one of the three radically new rear engine racers Thompson is completing for the Indianapolis 500-miler, the car builder announced today. The lightweight cars are identical, and each will be powered with a Buick V-8 aluminum engine.

Sunrise Ave., Anaheim, Calif., are serving aboard the anti-submarine warfare support aircraft carrier USS Bennington a unit of the First Fleet which took part in Exercise Black Bear from Nov. 24 through Dec. 1, off the coast of Southern California.
Involving some 10,000 men and 16 ships, the training operation centered around a fast carrier striking force subjected to air and sub-surface attack.
Opposition was provided by jet and conventional aircraft and by submarines, simulating attacks with all types of weapons. During the exercise the striking force was replenished at sea by fleet oilers stores ships and ammunition ships.
Army PFC, James D. Kirkhart, whose wife, Clegne, lives at 623 S. Pine St., Anaheim, is scheduled to participate with other personnel from the 80th Transportation Company.
Owen J. Ford of 808 W. Vorona St., Anaheim, is serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Oriskany operating out of San Diego, Calif.
The ship completed, in August, a five-month overhaul at the San Francisco Naval Shipyard and then returned to her home port at San Diego in September.
Army PFC Pedro P. Hernandez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hernandez, 238 Charlotte Ave., Anaheim, is a member of the 4th Armored Division's 22d Artillery flag football team, the "Cannonners," who recently placed second in the division championship play-off held in Furth, Germany.
The team, which lost to the division's 54th Infantry "Comanches" by a 12-6 score in the finals, won the Eastern Conference championship this year by beating the 24th Engineer Battalion's team, 13-7, in the conference playoffs in Erlangen.
The 22-year-old soldier, a driver in the artillery's Battery A in Zirndorf, entered the Army in Sept. 1859 and was last stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.
He attended Anaheim High School.
Army PFC's Harvey H. Corbin Jr., 25, Alvin R. Jones, and Barry W. Hooper recently participated in Exercise Brandy Wine, a field training exercise involving some 28,050 troops in Germany.
Corbin is a public-information specialist in Headquarters Company of the 51st Infantry located in Mannheim, Germany. Jones is a construction specialist in Company D of the 317th Engineer Battalion located in Bad.
Madrigal Singers and the Ana College Choir will their annual Spring Concert the community Sunday at the Fellowship Hall First Christian Church to the college campus at 17th St.
Instructor James Vail concert will be the first pus presentation by the choir this year, although groups have appeared before clubs and other gigs a community service of lege.
Sacred selections will the compositions of Mozza delssohn and Brahms. For and show tunes will be the second group.
The 16-voice Madrigal will feature folk and r songs.

Students from Biola College be featured in a special national program at the annual meeting of the Biola en's Auxiliary to be held at 10 a.m. on the Biola Cam Mirada. The meeting is all women and will be held home of Dr. Samuel H.

KMPC's Fred Hessler will broadcast the game starting with Bruin Warmup at 6:30 p.m. PST. If the Bruins are defeated by Cincinnati, they will play the loss of the Ohio State-Wake Forest Mid-East and Eastern tilists) contest on Saturday. KMPC would carry this match from warmup time; 3:50 p.m. PST.
If the Bruins beat Cincinnati they will go for the NCAA Championship against the winner of the Ohio State-Wake Forest game. In this case, KMPC and Hesler will go on with the Bruin Warmup broadcast Saturday at 9 p.m.; game time 6 p.m.

Clark Lay, professor of mathematics and education at Orte County State College, has awarded a National Science Foundation Faculty Fellowship in 1962-63, it was announced by college this week.

The exercise will test cold weather military doctrine and the ability of the two allied armies to work together as a fighting team. Exercise Great Bear will be conducted in the vicinity of Tanacross and Ellison Air Force Base, one of the most rugged areas over which an Alaskan maneuver has ever been held. Principle terrain features in the 3,200 square-mile maneuver area are the heavily forested lowlands of the Tanana river valley and the mountains, which range as high as 4,000 feet, converging on both sides of the valley.
Kirkhart, a mechanic in the company at Fort Richardson, Alaska, entered the Army in January 1960 and completed basic combat training at Fort Ord, Calif.
The 19-year-old soldier, son of James M. Kirkhart, 623 S. Pine, attended Anaheim High School.
Specialist Four Harold B. Dunlavy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth L. Dunlavy, 1505 E. Center St., Anaheim, recently passed the Army's new physical combat proficiency test in Germany.
The test, based on skills which require agility, coordination, strength and endurance, is designed to evaluate a soldier's physical capabilities and to determine whether an individual possesses the stamina which would be needed on a battlefield.

SAC Concert
To Be Sunday
Madrigal Singers and the Santa Ana College Choir, will present their annual Spring Concert for the community Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church, adjacent to the college campus on West 17th St.
Instructor James Vail said the concert will be the first off-campus presentation by the entire choir this year, although smaller groups have appeared regularly before clubs and other groups as a community service of the college.
Sacred selections will include the compositions of Mozart, Mendelssohn and Brahms. Folk songs and show tunes will be sung in the second group.
The 16-voice Madrigal Singers will feature folk and madrigal songs.
Featured soloists for the concert will be Russell Patterson of Orange, baritone, singing, "The Blind Plowman."
