Great Western Savings, Santa Ana Savings
Net earnings of Great Western Financial Corp. for the year ending Dec. 31, 1961, before appropriations to general reserves amounted to $13,898,738. This may be compared with $12,087,421 a year ago, an increase of $1,811,317 or 15 per cent according to Warren Lee Pierson, chairman
Spanish Concert Planned by USC
Concluding its month-long celebration of the 400th anniversary of the birth of Lope de Vega, Spain's greatest dramatist, the University of Southern California will present a public concert of Spanish cathedral organ music of the Baroque era in Boyard auditorium, Los Angeles, Friday, March 30, at 8:30 p.m.
Organist Irene Robertson and harpsichordist Hans Beer will play, and Franklin B. Zimmerman, head of the department of music history and literature in the USC School of Music, will give an illustrated lecture on ancient Spanish cathedral organs.
Earnings per share for 1961 amounted to $1.91 based on the 7,270,980 shares outstanding at year end. This compares with $1.66 per share for 1960, after adjustment for a 5 per cent stock dividend and a three-for-two stock split.
Consolidated assets at the close of 1961 amounted to $1,010,452,729 as compared with $780,445,550 a year earlier, or an increase of $230,007,179 or 29 per cent.
In reaching this total Great Western Financial became the first $1 billion savings and loan organization in the nation.
Pierson said that this was the greatest dollar increase in assets shown by the seven association in the Great Western Financial Group in any single year since the corporation was formed in 1955.

R Gain In History
associations as of Dec. 31, 1961, amounted to $762,414,057 as against $619,652,502 a year earlier, gain of $142,781,555 or 23 per cent. The number of savings account holders increased from 214,- to 251,676 over the 12-month period.
Pierson said that the increase savings during 1961 represent the greatest dollar gain for any year in the company's history obtained entirely from the opening of new accounts and through additions to existing ones.
Total loans at year end amounted to $865,294,850 against $684,918,-958, an increase of $180,375,892 or 26 per cent.
Pierson said that opportunities for the savings and loan industry in California today appear to be as great as at any time in the company's history. He said that the corporation has never been better equipped to take advantage of this potential.
