A slim margin enabled Morris to defeat Dennis Silver, OCSC junior, in one of the most competitive Student Council races held on campus. Running unopposed for the senior class vice-presidency was Rick DeYoung of 432 N. Wanda Dr., Fullerton. Barbara Rees, 235 Charlotte, Anaheim, was elected junior class representative despite a hard-fought write-in campaign by Dennis Rosene. New Student Council members also include Ginny Naylor of Yorba Linda and John McKay of Garden Grove, who were appointed to commissioner posts last week, according to Doug Dyer, ASB president. Miss Naylor was named Commissioner of Community Relations, and McKay as Commissioner of Organization. The appointments bring the nine commission posts up to full strength. —Who pays for advertising? The movement is billed as bi-partisan and is expected to enlist campaign workers from both the Republican and Democratic parties. In a prepared statement, Sumner told the press: "There is no office holder in California today who is more experienced or better trained than our own senior senator. 'Sen. Kuchel is actively serving his state and participating in the vital decisions of our times. He is taking no holiday from responsibility. 'All Parties Need Tom' 'The people of all parties need a man like Tom and now, by joining 'People for Kuchel,' they can individually and personally do something to help insure his fine representation of all the people of California. . .'" Questioned on his voting record in the senate, Kuchel told The Gazette: "I have supported the ideals of the Republican party during my tenure in office far better than many of my colleagues in the party, and.' he added, "that seems to be a view shared by former Sen. William F. Knowland (Oak land Tribune co-publisher) who said as much in a recent editorial in his newspaper." Speed Reading Showing Results Increases in reading speed of students taking a special co-educational course at Servite High School in Anaheim averaged more than 150 per cent just past the halfway mark of the course, reading specialist Dan Rosenwasser has reported. Rosenwasser, director of the Dan-Ro System of Rapid and Remedial Reading, said both adults and children are enrolled in the course, with each receiving individually-designed instruction. The speed reading authority added that the gains noted in the course at Servite High School also includes superior comprehension. "We feel that persons of any age have innumerable opportunities open to them through marked increases in their reading speed and comprehension," Rosenwasser continued. "Children are able to do their homework faster, and understand their assignments better, while gaining additional time for recreation." "Adults can increase their pleasure reading, or, as in the cases of numerous business executives who take our course, cut down the time spent reading various documents, thereby increasing the amount of time for other projects." Because of the success of the course, another is planned to begin Thursday, March 15. Further information may be obtained by phoning PR 4-7575 in Anaheim or OL 5-4770 in Beverly Hills. Earl Freeman, chief investigator, Efficiency Research Bureau of Anaheim, dropped the bombshell in press conference in which he revealed findings of the investigation agency during a 70-day study of the San Birch Society. "This group has collected 'anti' literature — anti-Negro, anti-semitic, anti-Protestant, anti-Catholic, etc. — and plans to release it in such a manner that it will appear to come from JBS members or other patriotic groups," according to the ERB report. ERB director de Orto classified the investigation as "routine," but admitted it was the first "political" sleuthing undertaken by his company. The bureau, sort of a first cousin to a private detective agency, provides "security" for small businesses, according to de Orto. He explained that the firm furnishes application forms and performs background investigations of potential employees, spot checks an employee's record.
