Phone Co. Plans Local Expansion $5 Million, 3-Story Building Slated for Lemon St. in 1964 Start of construction this summer on a major building addition in Anaheim features Pacific Telephone's king-sized 1960 expansion program in Orange County. The three-story addition to the firm's building at 217 North Lemon will house a long-distance switching center. The $5,000,000 center is scheduled to go into service in 1964. The 70,000 square-foot structure will take about a year to complete. Then new "toll switching" units will be installed to provide more voice paths. The result will be faster, more direct long-distance service for Orange County telephone users. Althogether, Pacific Telephone plans a $23,000,000 construction program in the county this year. District Manager H. R. Heth said it exceeds by $2,000,000. ANAHEIM GAZETTE—7 ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA Thursday, January 25, 1962 building expenditures by the firm during 1961. It is estimated that more than 45,000 new telephones will be added in the county this year. The January 1 total was $336,600—an increase of 12 percent over a year ago. The telephone firm provides employment for 2,500 persons in the county, with an annual payroll in 1961 exceeding $13,000,000. Last year nearly 57,000,000 long-distance calls were placed in the area, an increase of six percent over 1960. Local calls in the county totaled 237,000,000, representing a 17 percent increase. "Pacific Telephone will continue its growth in 1962 and will make major contributions to the expansion and economy of the Orange County communities it serves." Heth said. "We have confidence in the county's future and we're proud to be able to participate actively in its growth." Wilsing Receives Promotion In LA Promotion of Ted Wilsing Anaheim to the position of senior underwriter in the Los Angeles home office of Farmers Insurance Group has been announced by R. R. McClintick, general manager. Wilsing became associate with the insurance organization in 1958 as an underwriter and the past 1½ years has been the Santa Ana Regional Office a senior underwriter. A native of Milford, Mass., received his degree in Natural Science from Massachusetts Mitime Academy and studied additional year at the School Philosophy, Montreal, Canada. He served 30 months with Navy as a lieutenant in the Pacific area. National Guard Quotas Are Hiked The six months active duty training program for the California Army National Guard has sumed, with generous month quotas allotted to the State of California for each month through June 1962. Major General Rodie L. Hill, state adjutant general announced today. The California Army National Guard needs 1300 men to meet its current strength requirement. General Hill said, in announcing also that enlistments have been re-opened for men without previous military service. This means, General Hill says that mid-year high school graduates can be assured of early put in the six months training program which will allow them minimum interruption in their plans for either higher education or employment. Fylpaa has been named manager of the Anaheim office of California Federal Savings, according to Howard Edgerton, president and chief executive officer. Edgerton's announcement followed a meeting of the $730-million nation's largest federal savings firm's board of directors during which all officers were re-elected. Fylpaa, former manager of the firm's Lakewood office, has been identified with California Federal Savings for the past three years, and previous to that time was in the commercial banking business. He is a director of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, president of the Carwood Businessmen's Association and past officer of Cub Scout Pack 205, Alamitos Dive Boys Scouts of America. Haight, county veterinary officer, announced today that a rabies vaccination clinic program will be held throughout Orange County during January. The clinics are for dogs, four months of age and older. The program is operated as a public service by the Orange County branch, Southern Californinia Veterinary Medical Association, in cooperation with the city administration and the Orange County Health Department. It is carried out locally by various civic organizations and service groups under the guidance of local veterinarians.
