Lyon Is Named Chairman Of Builders' Committee
William Lyon. Anaheim, president of Luxury Homes, Inc., builders of the Dutch Haven developments in Orange County, has been named chairman of the Orange County Committee of the Home Builders Association of Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties, Merrill Butler, Jr., HBA president, announced last week.
This will be Lyon's second appointment as Orange County chairman, having served in the job in 1959. He succeeds C. P. Midlebrook of Middlebrook-Anderson Company, also of Anaheim, who was Orange County Committee chairman in 1961.
Lyon was elected to the board of directors of the HBA in December, 1958, and has served continuously as a director since then. He has been active on two major subcommittees of the Orange County Committee, the Subdivision Advisory Committee which works with city managers for uniformity in building codes, and the Standardization of Improvements Committee, which works on standardizing engineering requirements for subdivisions. He was sponsor of the one-day conference of the HBA with city managers of Orange County in 1960, designed to achieve uniformity in requirements for subdivisions.
Lyon is a native of Southern California and attended the University of Southern California, majoring in commercial aviation. He owns and flies his own twinengine Beechcraft in handling his state-wide developments.
He has logged more than 4,000 hours of flying time, is a command pilot in the U. S. Air Force and holds an airline transport rating as a civilian pilot.
He is a major in the Air Force Reserve, acting as operations officer of the 730th Troop Carrier Squadron, March Air Force Base.
Three Top Heart Doctors Guests Here Next Week
Three of the most famous names in the study of heart disease and surgery will be guest speakers at the Seventh Annual Symposium on Heart Disease, to be sponsored by the Orange County Heart Assn., Saturday, Jan. 27.
The symposium meetings will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Charterhouse Hotel in Anaheim with Thomas L. Channell, president of the Orange County Heart Assn., opening the sessions.
Doctors George Burch of the dept. of medicine, School of Medicine at Anaheim may make with Mrs. Reasoner.
The Consumer Information Conference for Orange County and surrounding areas, originally scheduled for early this month will be held on Wed., Jan from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jolly Roger Restaurant, Katella Ave., Anaheim.
Mrs. Helen Ewing Nelson sumer-Counsel to Governormund G. Brown, will lead conference. Featured will panel of representatives on eral, state and local govern agencies who will discuss summer problems with audience.
Among topics scheduled discussion are food bying, intensive packaging, misleading vertising and short weighting.
Mrs. Harry Wingren, 233 na Ave., Santa Ana, is chair of a committee handling local rangements for the conference.

A luncheon has been arranged during which consumers will have an opportunity to tune discussions informally panel members. Cost of the luncheon is $2.50 and advance reservations are required. They may make with Mrs. Reasoner.
Stereo Station . . .
Jeannette Banoczi, president and manager of KGGK-FM (94.3 MC) announced last week that the radio station will start full-time stereo broadcasts on or about Feb. 1.
KGGK-FM will be the first station in this area to convert to stereo. It will be the second station west of the Mississippi River to go full time stereo.

Walton Lillehei, professor of surgery at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn.; and William Paul Thompson, clinical professor of medicine at Loma Linda University, Los Angeles, Calif., will speak on “heart” throughout the day in the Valencia Ballroom of the hotel.

The Consumer Information Conference for Orange County and surrounding areas, originally scheduled for early this month, will be held on Wed., Jan. 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rally Roger Restaurant, 620 W. Stella Ave., Anaheim.

Grunenfelder Is Endorsed By OC Labor Group
At a meeting of their executive
board, the Central Labor Council
of Orange County announced their
endorsement of Frank Grunenfelder for the candidacy to the elective office of Orange County Superintendent of Schools.
William J. Fountain, secretary,
stated that the endorsement was
unanimous. The Labor Council of
Orange County is affiliated with
the American Federation of Labor,
the Congress of Industrial Organization and the California State Federation of Labor.
Grunenfelder announced his
candidacy for the position
of County Superintendent of Schools in November after the announcement by Linton T. Simmons, present superintendent, of his intention to retire after his
present term expires at the end
of 1962.
Grunenfelder has recently received other endorsements which
include those by the Orange County Board of Education, County Superintendent Linton T. Simmons,
the Orange County Elementary Superintendents' Association, Caliifornia Association of Secondary School Administrators (Orange County Unit), the Orange County Public Schools' Business Officials, Phi Delta Kappa (Alpha Chl Field Chapter), and the entire staff of the Orange County Schools Office.
Bond Drive For Foreign Students Set
A bond drive to bring foreign exchange students to Western High school and provide for a Western High student to go to a foreign country will begin this Saturday.
The drive is an annual affair
and will be sponsored by Western's American Field Service committee.
The bonds will be autographed by present exchange students Marlise Pauker, Switzerland, and Gert Riethus, West Berlin.
A sweater knitted by a former exchange student's foster sister and other prizes will be given to winning bond holders after the sale terminates.
The drive will begin with a special assembly sponsored by AFS and arranged by Bell Telephone Company.

Anaheim Evening High School Is offering a course on mutual funds at Western High School, Jan. 31.

The class is to be conducted by L. L. Roobian, a local investment counselor, and will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. for a nine week period in Room No. 47.
The objective of this course is to give investors a broader knowledge of the 21 billion dollar industry by presenting information on history of mutual funds, professional money management, dollar cost average, and results of many leading mutual funds.

Western High school sophomores are beginning preparations for their annual Sweetheart Ball.
The affair is slated for Feb. 17 in the Girl's Gym and will begin at 8:30.
Soph officers Bob Fleming, Gail Ramsey, Gerry Sanders and Marcy Liggett have been meeting with various committees.
Highlighting the entertainment will be Jack Esquew's 10-piece band.
Reigning at the Ball will be the Sophomore Queen, still to be selected. Petitions for queen candidates will be available from Saturday until next Thursday.
