ORANGETHORPE AT EUCLID ANAHEIM GAZETTE—5 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Thursday, December 28, 1961 Junior Ebells To Meet Jan. 2 The regular monthly meeting of the Anaheim Junior Ebell Club will be held 7:45 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1962 at the Ebell clubhouse. Mrs. George Reed president, will preside. Mrs. William Matteson, program chairman, will introduce Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Mason and their son, Michael, who will give a demonstration and lecture on the subject of "Fencing." Mr. and Mrs. Mason as well as their son are adept in this classic sport and will perform French fencing and Japanese Kendo, which is fought with two-handed bamboo. Mrs. Gordon Johnson will serve as January tea chairman. The committee assisting Mrs. Johnson include Mesdames Howard Hana-walt, Raymond Harinec, Gordon Haskins, Leron Hester, Dale Hughes, Richard Husman, Richard Jackson, Richard Jones, Kenneth Keith, Richard Kelley, Robert Kelley and James Imig. Faith Lutheran Presents Choir An inspiring presentation of the Christmas story in words and song was offered at two services at Faith Lutheran Church Christmas Eve. The newly organized Luther Choir, under the direction of Alex Carillo, sang at the first service, and the 30-voice chancel choir, under the direction of Mrs. Lee Vaughn, presented the Christmas story in song at the candlelight service at 11 p.m. The choirs were accompanied by Mrs. Dale Noack and Mrs. William Guss. Diane Carrick Is Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Carrick, 206 W. Winston Rd., Anaheim, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Diane Leslie, to Benjamin Benton Royer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vearl C. Royer, 617 S. Dickel St., Anaheim. Miss Carrick, a native of California, attended schools in San Mateo and was graduated from Anaheim High School with the class of June, 1961. Her fiance, a native of Indiana, was graduated from Anaheim High School also and is a criminology major at Fullerton Junior College. The wedding will take place Jan. 27, 1962 at Alamitos Friends Church in Garden Grove. Chapman Prof Writes Book Dr. B. J. Oliver Jr., professor of sociology and psychology at Chapman College, has signed a contract with the College and University Press, New Haven, Conn., for the publishing of his book "You and Marriage." The volume will be a textbook for college courses in marriage and the family. Dr. Oliver expects to complete the manuscript within six months for a publication date in late 1962. Written from both a sociological and psychological point of view, the book will include sections on preparation for marriage, marital problems and adjustments, and parent-child relationships, according to Professor Oliver. "The title has been selected because I feel that the individual is central in the marriage," Dr. Oliver commented. "Failure in marriage very often, in reality, is the lack of the development of adequate personalities for marriage." A member of the Chapman faculty since 1952, Dr. Oliver is head of the college's Department of Sociology and Social Welfare. He is a certified psychologist in California, a Fellow of the American Sociological Society, a contributor to the Encyclopedia Britannica, and a member of the American Sociological Society, a contributor to the Encyclopedia Britannica, and a member of the American Association of Marriage Counselors, National Mental Health Association, and American Association of University Professors. Rosary Institute Has Yule Party Members of the Our Lady of the Rosary Institute 100 held their annual Christmas party in conjunction with their regular meeting Monday in the Odd Fellows Hall. Mrs. Walter Renk and Mrs. Don Dixon were in charge of the decorations and arrangements for the party. Canned goods were donated for the needy and the singing of Christmas carols, led by Miss Mary Jean Lambert, highlighted the evening. Hostesses were Mrs. C. F. Salk, Mrs. Lee Freiberg, Mrs. Anthony Ventriglia and Mrs. Walter Thibodeau. A nun doll exhibit will be held Jan. 15 in the Odd Fellows Hall following the meeting, to which the public is invited. The next meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall. Tax Collections Reach 94 Millions Federal tax collections reached $94.4 billion for the year ending June 30, 1961, up $2.6 billion from 1960, according to Commerce Clearing House, national reporting authority on tax and business law, in its annual federal tax review. This all-time high in total collections resulted in the highest per capita federal tax burden ever — $514.03, an increase of $5.66 per person during the year. Dr. Samuel H. Sutherland, president of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Inc., announced today that Biola Films, one of the departments of the half-century-old Christian training organization, is to be maintained by Missionary Enterprises, directed by Paul Goodman, 405 West Imperial Highway, La Habra. Virgil Wemmer, director of Biola Films, will continue in the same capacity for Missionary Enterprises. The film library of Biola will be distributed through Missionary Enterprises including Biola's newest production, the documentary film, "The Crisis in Morality." Films of a Bible-teaching and missionary nature are available from the Biola Film Library. Descriptive catalogs are available. Both the name and the headquarters address will remain the same. Biola Films is currently working on "Freedom for Filipinos," a production for the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. The seven churches of Revelation is the subject of another production featuring Dr. Paul R. Bauman. Dr. Jack MacArthur, pastor of the MacArthur Memorial Church in Burbank, is to be featured in yet another new film on Biblical prophecy. The Bible Institute of Los Angeles anticipates releasing a film on "Russian Communism and God's Timetable" later in 1962. Edwin Hall Is Promoted Edwin M. Hall has been appointed as controller of Robertshaw-Fulton's Aeronautical and Instrument Division here, it was announced by Raymond H. Heller general manager of the division. Hall is a graduate of Woodbury College in Los Angeles with a B.B.A. degree, and also has studied advanced accounting at the University of California at Los Angeles. He succeeds Warren E. Fitzgerald, who recently resigned the post. Before joining Robertshaw, the new controller served as manager of accounting at the Hughes Semiconductor Division, Newport Beach. Earlier, he was chief accountant for Borg-Warner Controls at Santa Ana, and also had been associated with the Wheel Craft Division of Monarch Silver King, and the Sierraracin Corporation. In his new position, Hall has direct responsibility for administering the functions of cost accounting, data processing, general services, and advertising. He is an active member of the National Association of Accountants. Science Films Slated at Park Science films which explain such topics as the atom, the development of aviation, rockets and space flight will be shown at the California Museum of Science and Industry in Exposition Park from Thursday, December 21 through January 1. Titles include "Our Friend, the Atom," "Man in Flight," "Man in Space," "Donald in Mathmagic Land," "Introduction to Feedback," and "The Loon's Necklace." The films will be shown weekdays at 11:30, 12:30 and 3:30 with an extra showing at 1:30 on weekends. The Museum is open daily except Christmas, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no admission charge. J. Schutte. The proclamation honors the nation's largest savings and loan association upon being the first such organization to accrue $1 billion in assets.
