ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
OPEN SEPTEMBER 11TH
(Editor's Note: This article is published in cooperation with the Board of Education, Anaheim City School District, Superintendent Robert Shanks answers questions being asked about the opening of elementary schools. For further information parents should telephone or visit their child's school, or call the District Offices at KEystone 5-6001.)
Will the Schools Be Overcrowded?
No, we have not had double-sessioned classes since 1956 and we do not expect to have overcrowded classrooms anywhere in the District this year. Three new schools were completed and occupied last Spring.
trict's tax increase election last February, funds are available and enough teachers have been employed so that a reasonable number of children can be assigned to each teacher. In other words, we have planned for and expect to have a reasonable "class size" in every classroom this year.
Have the School Attendance Area Boundaries Been Changed?
Yes, there have been some changes for some schools. The Board of Education has adopted these changes to avoid overcrowding at certain schools. Anaheim's continuing population growth is going to make at least a few boundary changes necessary each year for years to come, apparently. However, we do not have too many major changes this year.

BUILDING AT ID, ANAHEIM
Will the Schools Be Overcrowded?
No, we have not had double-sessioned classes since 1956 and we do not expect to have overcrowded classrooms anywhere in the District this year. Three new schools were completed and occupied last Spring so we have ample classroom space in this District for all pupils. All children will attend school on a "full-day-of-school" basis again this year. At the rate our enrollments are now increasing, we will have sufficient classroom space for at least the next year or so, probably longer. Then we will probably need to build another new school on one of our two reserve school sites in southeast Anaheim.

Congressman James B. Utt (R-28th Dist.) urges reinstatement of the Monroe Doctrine and abrogation of the treaty with the Organization of American States as the first step in a positive policy of ac-treaty with the OAS, no coun-cra United Nations-sponsored organization which has superceded the Monroe Doctrine in dealing with Western Hemispheric affairs.
Under the toarms of the
with the Organization of American States as the first step in a positive policy of treaty with the OAS, no country which is a party to the treaty can take any action affecting another, unless it is first approved by the United Nations Security Council where Russia has the veto. "Naturally, we can never get permission to act where it is to our benefit and against the Communists to do so, as it would be in Cuba," Utt said.
Utt recently visited Berlin, where he interviewed top United States military leaders. "One high authority told me that our mis-handling of the Cuba affair has hurt us more in Berlin than anything else we have or have not done." Utt disclosed. He stressed that "if we show weakness 90 miles from home, where the Russians know we can make good any action we take, what chance do we have 5,000 miles away."

East Street and attended Edison School last year are being asked to walk to Lincoln School this year.
Pupils from the area west of Los Angeles Street between Center Street and South Street who formerly attended Jefferson School are now being transferred to Franklin School.
Palm Lane School pupils who live on the east side of the Southern Pacific Railway and north of Ball Road are now being transferred to the new Betsy Ross School at Santa Ana and Walnut.
These are all of the major changes. There will need to be some other minor adjustments and transfers of individual pupils, however.
We want to emphasize that all these changes are made solely to provide better education popular of course. But they must be made at times for the benefit of the children.
What Are the School Hours?
Classes at most schools will begin daily at 9 a.m. Dismissal time for Grades One and Two will be 2:30, with Grade Three being dismissed at 2:55, and Grades Four through Six at 3:30.
Classes at Loara, Katella, Gauer, Madison, Sunkist, Horace Mann, and Patrick Henry Schools will commence at 8:30 a.m. The dismissal times for the various grades at these schools will, of course, be 30 minutes earlier.
Dismissal times for kindergarten classes vary somewhat from school to school, due to bus schedules and other difficulties.
Why Are Your Schools Starting on September 11?
So that five full days can be devoted to the pre-school teacher orientation and training program for the 99 newly employed teachers in our District, with four full days of similar training for all returning teachers. This is an important program to help our teachers to be well prepared and provide a well-planned instructional program in every classroom.
Should I Register My Children for Elementary School Now?
Yes, if you have moved into our District during the summer, or if you have moved from one school area to another, you should register your children now at the elementary school they will attend.
Changes to avoid overcrowding certain schools, continuing population is going to make few boundary necessary each year to come, apparently, we do not have too far changes this year, living in the area acentia Avenue beginner Road and Ball be bussed to Jefferfather than to Sunny Living south of Kaiden and east of Hasle who attended Kaiden last year will be the year to the new School on Midway west of Los Angeles who live south of the west side of Ana and Walnut.
These are all of the major changes. There will need to be some other minor adjustments and transfers of individual pupils, however.
We want to emphasize that all these changes are made solely to provide better educational opportunities and benefits for the pupils. Teachers can teach more effectively and children learn more in classrooms that are not overcrowded. To avoid situations in which certain classrooms in the District have as many as 40 or more pupils enrolled, while other classrooms at the same grade level may have as few as 20 or less pupils enrolled, it just becomes necessary at times to make some boundary changes and some transfers of pupils. Such moves money needed to fight the Communist Menace, are invited to join the fun while helping the cause of America's most precious asset—her Freedom.

If your children will be returning to the same school they attended last year it is not necessary for them to be registered.
Every child will receive a postcard on or about September 7 giving information about his school assignment, class and room number, and so forth.
