PROGRAM—Arthur Leavitt, service engineer for Pacific Telephone, has been selected one of the first speakers on "Space Age Communications." The program illustrates many recent advancements in outer space communications.
Telephone Company Offers Programs for Area Groups
Simulated demonstrations of several innovations made by the Bell Telephone system in recent advancements into outer space communications are now available to local schools, servianizations, according to G. R. Gresham, manager of Pacific Telephone.
Highlight of a new program—called "Space Age Communication"—is the bouncing of a telephone signal off a model Project Echo. Miniature microwave stations bounce the call before the audience.
The speaker explains the Echo satellite was launched to find out if a telephone conversation could be received into space, bounced off a moving satellite and back to earth again.
