THEY CALL IT LIBERAL
Some politicians and bureaucrats call themselves "liberal" and say they are working with the best interests of the individual citizen at heart.
However, the meaning of words, just as other things, changes with the times.
"Liberalism" in the 19th Century meant the liberating of individuals from the restrictions and controls of government.
Today the word to describe the aims and objectives of self-styled "liberals" is "centralism."
That is, instead of promoting the liberation of persons from the burdens and controls of government, "centralism" advocates:
More, not less, government;
More, not less, support of the people by the government;
More, not less, control and regimentation of persons and business;
More, not less, steady expansion of the size, power, and cost of the Federal government.
Glib "liberals" have caused people to forget that

SAFE WALKING TIPS
THE HIGH COST OF JAYWALKING
The jaywalker who crosses the street between intersections ranks as the No. 1 violator of pedestrian safety rules. Besides that, he is asking for a one-way ticket to the cemetery.
This practice causes more pedestrian deaths each year than any other, the Automobile Club of Southern California warns, and the reason is plain to see. When you cross between intersections, you forfeit the protection of traffic signals, stop signs and cross walks. In short, you're on your own—a target for any car that passes.
The Auto Club urges you to cross only at intersections, and then after you have looked carefully in all directions. Take advantage of the traffic devices that are provided for you. Don't be a pedestrian's fone wolf. You may pay with your lifel.

State Asks Information on Bribery In County
The second phase in the curricular investigation of bribery of public officials in Orange County has been initiated by Orange General Stanley Mosk and Orange County District Attorney Kenneth Williams.
Attorney General Mosk has sent letters to all contractors who conduct business in Orange County, requesting information concerning the solicitation and receipt of bribes. The letter urges the Orange County District Attorney's offer of unjustly to any private citizen who has been solicited by him has paid a bribe to any official, and who comes with information conning the bribe.
The letter from Attorney General Mosk stated, "We are aware that the preponderant majority of public officials have performed their duties in a conscientious and honest manner. We are likewise aware that some have not."
"If those (contractors) who have been victimized by this type of activity do not come forward, they will be faced with the prospect of prosecution in the event that independent investigations reveal their participation in any such action is eliminated, the legitimate businessman in the future will again have to pay bribes for official action to which he is entitled. I am sure such a prospect is as repugnant to you as it is to this office."
The letter advises the contractors to contact the Attorney General's representative, Harry Cooper, at the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Room 803-H State Building, 217 W. First Street, Los Angeles. The telephone is MAdison 0-3190. They may also contact the Orange County District Attorney.
Six city officials in the Orange County municipality of Westminster have already been arrested by the Orange County District Attorney and are under investigation on suspicion of bribery. The State Department of Justice's Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation has been co-operating with Orange County officials in these bribery investigations.

GET PETITIONS—Congressman John Bell Williams (D-Miss.), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Transportation and Aeronautics, and Congressman James B. Utt (R-Calif. and Orange County) are shown receiving petitions from William K. Shearer and Charles Barrack in Washington. The petitions, circulated by Conservative Americans, a San Diego County, California organization, call on Congress to declare the Cuban Castro regime a "pirate" and issue letters of marque and reprisal which would permit private parties to take back property as restitution for thievery by the Cuban government.
