New Thriftimart Store To Open
Thriftimart will open its 62nd supermarket on August 15th. This new unit is located in the Spring Valley area of San Diego, at 1049 Elkelton Boulevard (at Jamacha). It will be the second market for Thriftimart in the San Diego area. In the 26,250 sq. ft. market will be five complete departments—grocery, meat, produce, delicatessen and liquor, as well as a representative clothing and housewares department.
The first Thriftimart in San Diego, at 6120 Lake Murray Boulevard (at El Paso), La Mesa, was opened March 28 of this year.
The history of Thriftimart is one of continued success.

Enlisted Programs
One year's draft deferment is assured applicants for the Naval Air Reserve's popular "6x2" program. This entails a total of six years total service—two years active and four years in one of the Naval Air Reserve's "Weekend Warrior" squadrons. Recruiting age limits are 17 to 31.
Under a recent new ruling, veterans (Navy and Coast Guard) are eligible to enlist in a "Weekend Warrior" squadron at their old rating, rovipiding a billet for the specialty exists in the unit. Age limits are 17 to 39. Veterans currently on Naval Reserve rolls are invited to contact Los Alamitos to determine their status and priority of recall.
The Naval Air Reserve also offers an excellent six months program. However, because of the popularity of the program, Captain Buchan points out that only limited vacancies are available. Active duty requirements are met with six months of technical training at Memphis, Tenn. The recruit (now qualified for promotion) then

looked. We seem to be riding a winning horse at the moment, and we must keep it that way.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange County has taken a stand in opposition to HR 6028 and HR 6433, two federal bills designed to expand the authority of the federal government in urban redevelopment programs. The Associated Chambers takes the position that present community development laws are adequate; that extension of government control and subsidies will hurt the free market system; that government intervention is not the best way to stimulate community development; and that businessmen should consistently support local responsibility for community development programs.
Your Committee endorses the Associated's stand on HR 6028 and HR 6433 and urges you to OPPOSE these measures. Let your Congressman and Senators know.
The Committee has taken a position opposing the restoration of funds for the United States Information Agency, recently cut by Congress. We feel that it is the responsibility of USIA to project a favorable

The Committee has taken a position opposing the restoration of funds for the United States Information Agency, recently cut by Congress. We feel that it is the responsibility of USIA to project a favorable image of American culture, society and economy to foreign nations—but that the agency under Edward R. Murrow has frequently attempted to degrade rather than to upgrade the American image, through such films as "Harvest of Shame", attempting to portray a nation of slave labor.
Your Committee recommends that Chamber members join in opposing restoration of funds to USIA and that the Chamber Board invite other Chambers of Commerce in the County to consider such action.
Your Committee would like to emphasize the importance of continued Chamber activity in the legislative area. The state legislative session is over—but already the battle lines are being drawn and preliminary skirmishes are taking place that will have important effect upon the next session. We must stay alert!
Respectfully,
G. H. Bishop, chairman
