ATTACK AND GAMBLING TABLES
In time of crisis you always know who your friends are.
And in this time of peril on the Berlin issue it certainly is good to know that our good neighbor Nevada doesn't seem too friendly toward Californians when it comes to nuclear war.
This became more than obvious last week when Nevada revealed plans for a 5,000-man militia to repulse an estimated million Southern Californians who officials think might plunder Nevada in event of a nuclear war. "They would come in like a swarm of locusts and pick the valley clean of food, medical supplies and other goods," officials declared.
The proposal was made at a civil defense meeting attended by nearly 400 business and industrial leaders.
Now this pronouncement comes as quite a shock to many Southern Californians who for years have stood still "for some real plundering" from Nevada's gambling casmos.
This, of course, was just for money. When it comes to preserving life and Southern Californians try-
FEAR AND LACK OF FACTS
It seems unbelievable in these supposedly "enlightened" times that sufferers of disorders over which they have no control should be shunned and forced to hide their affliction because of fear of social and economic repercussions. Yet, because of fear, superstition or just plain lack of facts, many of California's 153,500 epileptics find themselves in this position.
During August the Orange County Epilepsy Society is conducting a campaign to provide the true facts about the disorder. The Society's purpose is simple—to overcome the stigman attached to this common nervous disorder...a stigma that keeps many epileptics from leading the normal, useful lives to which they are entitled.
Medically, most victims of epilepsy can lead quite normal lives; sociially, they cannot. And, ironically, most of this discrimination is based upon nothing more than medieval superstition.
Rather than being "demon-possessed," epileptics are suffering from a neurological disorder that can strike anyone. Thanks to modern medicine, four out of five epileptics can be helped, but that help won't be truly complete until we all remember that epilepsy is no more unmentionable or shameful than the diseases with which we are more familiar.
The Orange County Epilepsy Society welcomes your inquiries for more information and your contributions to continue their important work. They can be reached at 5302 Mountain View, Yorba Linda, telephone LA 8-7826.

"No One Eper Turned Away for Lack of Funds"
City Cancer Workers Help Quota Over Top
Bob Shuler Jr., Orange Cancer Crusade chair, announced today that Orlando has gone way over 61 crusade quota set for annual American Cancer's fund raising and educational campaign.
Anaheim — which raised $1.15 — he expressed his desire to Crusade Area men-Mmes. Milton Farber Roanne Pl., Richard D. of 2320 Seville Ave., F. Sandoval of 305 S. St., F. Robert Salow of Helena Pl., and H. A. of 9291 Hillview Rd.
Shuler said that, to date, Orange Countians have given $120,955.87 to the 1961 crusade which had as its quota $118,535.
He said this represents an increase of $21,313.02 over the $99,642.25 raised by the Orange County Branch in 1960 — an amount which shows the general awareness and faith that cancer research—initiated and supported by the ACS — will, in time, be able to conquer this killing disease.
Many a man preaches economy, but leaves it up to his wife to practice it.
Anaheim Youngster Is Patient at Orthopaedic
Christopher Elms, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Elms of 2208 Virginia Ave., Anaheim has been admitted as a patient at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital it was announced today.
Anaheim is one of the many Southland communities which sends its handicapped children to Orthopaedic Hospital to become straight and strong.
While the hospital serves private patients no disabled boy or girl through the age of 21 who can benefit from orthopaedic care, is refused admission regardless of race, creed, place of residence or ability to pay. Since 1920, nearly 80,000 crippled children have cared for at Orthopaedic pital.
Although operational facilities are provided Orthopaedic pital through such sources, the Anaheim United Fund capital funds for expansion new building must be raised through public appeal, office pointed out.
Residents of community where children receive were urged to support the institution's current fund for a new $6,500,000 child center, where care of Southland's growing number of crippled children can be continued.

Fair Figures Show Success
Figures, proving that the July 1961 Orange County Fair was the most successful fair ever held, were announced today by A.E. Pat Arnold of Cypress, president of the 32nd District Agricultural Assn., directorate of all activity at the Costa Mesa fairgrounds.
At the July board meeting, Arnold compared the 1961 record-breaking figures with 1960's outstanding fair.
