TO BE GIVEN AWAY—Pictured above is the "Treasure in Silver" to be given to a local resident in Home Savings' newest community contest. The grouping, which will handsomely decorate any home, includes 18 individual pieces. Residents To Receive Phone Service Aid A service aid designed to speed up many incoming long distance calls to Orange county will soon be mailed to local telephone subscribers. Harvey Hendrickson, Pacific Telephone manager, said the sets of stickers designate "714" as the local area dialing code. It's recommended they be mounted on the upper portion of the number plate of each telephone, just above the telephone number. "The '714' code should be passed on to your friends and business contacts in most parts." Their calls to local people will go through faster if they remember "714" precedes local telephone numbers. The total affected incoming calls has recently risen to 75,000 a day in Orange county. "714" isn't needed on long distance calls placed with the local calling area of Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Imperial counties, Hendrickson said. He pointed out that area codes were introduced locally. Harvey Hendrickson, Pacific Telephone manager, said the sets of stickers designate "714" as the local area dialing code. WHAT'S DOING Harvey Hendrickson, your Telephone Manager in Anaheim Is this the world's most popular machine? You'd think so, judging by the number of phone calls it gets—more than 100,000 daily! It's called an Audichron. Just dial "time service" and it will give you the correct time every ten-seconds, of every minute, of every hour. In just one day, this adds up to 8640 announcements. Best of all, this remarkable machine never gets tired. The Audichron is completely automatic. It's regularly checked with Naval Observatory Time for accuracy. Should it stop operating for any reason, there's a standby machine ready to take over immediately. Providing the "time-service" is another way telephone people work constantly to make your telephone more valuable to you. Beauty is more than skin-deep, to the people who make your telephone. I understand that they buy cosmetic chemicals in large, economy-sized truckloads. Seems that talcum powder adds strength to plastics used in telephone parts. An industrial blend of rouge is used to polish metal parts to high lustre and close tolerances. Peroxide—used when tinting hair—is also used by phone makers in tin plating solutions. Paraffin, an ingredient found in lipstick, is used as a moisture-proof agent in underground telephone cables. And, certain ingredients used in cold creams, skin softeners, soap and nail polish lacquers help give your telephone long life and lasting beauty. Boy Scouts are always prepared! They know to call 116 in case of emergency. Stephen Fredette of Troop No. 70, Anaheim, shows Harvey Hendrickson, Anaheim Commercial Manager, how a scout would act when help is needed.
