It widely circulated a letter claiming there was a nasty spiracy to take over the school for Robert Welch. Yet not of the 11 men was a member the J B Society. One, I understand, had been. Most of us never heard of it before. The letter condemns all but incumbent candidates with hollow apologies to those who might not be conspirator on a "matter of principle." Incumbent publicly protests these untruths as they did being called rubber stamps. SAFEWAY Save 48c TIDE Detergen Giant Western High Elects Leaders Western High School has held the annual run-off election for the junior and senior class officers. The following officers were elected by the class of 1962: president, Tak Moromote; vice president, Kim Smith; secretary, Verjean Rattenbury; treasurer, Frank Hatanka. The officers elected by the class of 1963 were: president, Tom Mills; vice-president, Pat Murdock; secretary, Sandy Miller; treasurer, Vicki Daulton. The new officers will succeed the class officers of 1961. These included: senior class president, Bob Harman; vice-president, Warren Kusaka; secretary, Elaine Shields; treasurer, Stormie Sherk; junior class president, Charles Aguilaga; vice-president, Linda Fowler; secretary, Charlene Sparks; treasurer, Verjean Rattenbury. Both classes had a very active year. The senior officers were able to secure many new senior privileges for their classmates, including a senior lunch line and a senior parking lot. The junior officers had their hands full raising funds for the Junior-Senior Prom, which will be held May 20 at the Wilton Hotel, Long Beach. Scout-O-Rama Kenneth Green, Santa Ana businessman, and Dave Hearle of Sears, Roebuck and Co., Santa Ana, announced today that ticket kick-offs for the Orange Empire Council Scout-O-Rama set for May 27 at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa have been overwhelmingly successful. LA PALMA at EUCLID, ANAHEIM PROSPECT 2-1617 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR The Editor: Some of us may have been used, as boys (behind our eyes, of course), but no decent deserved the John Birch-Given non-incumbents by a Bad Schools Committee" in recent Fullerton area School Board elections. We widely circulated a letter saying there was a nasty conspiracy to take over the schools Robert Welch. Yet not one of the 11 men was a member of U B Society. One, I understated, had been. Most of us had heard of it before the outcry a month or so ago. The letter condemned incumbent candidates, hollow apologies to those might not be conspirators, "matter of principle." No untruths as they did on called rubber stamps. We note the GSC headquarters were supplied by an incumbent. I asked a GSC man why he lumped us all together and he said, "We didn't mean you." Fooey! They had a nice juicy smear to re-elect their friends and duck the real issue (we aren't getting the schools we pay for), and they used it sparingly against a fine group of public-spirited citizens. So I challenge the conscientious members of the Committee to a bit of fair play. Let them identify the conspirators and the conspiracy, naming names, dates, places. Or let them spend as much time and money apologizing to honorable men as they did tar-brushing them. They can skip me. I'd rather be annoyed. Now about the issues they raised. I'm informed that Fullerton area schools had at least two known Communists teaching as recently as 1957. Our Boards have no "security" program to deter such people. One Board member said he didn't think it right to ask a teacher his political beliefs. Communism is political? How simple can you be? Are the children's or the teachers' rights to come first? Or is there some reconciliation? The Society may be misguided but at least it is fighting a dreadful enemy the best way it can. I don't mind open Reds. We need 'em to sharpen our teeth on. But our School Boards are incompetent when they cannot protect us against hidden Socialists or economically ignorant teachers who are supposed to teach our youngsters what made this a great nation and what is destroying it. So let the Committee er this. The California Association is applying spending a lot of time into the Society. Where commensurate attack or lectivism, Socialism and munism? Then let GSC rubber-stamping politicians neuvers. Let it stop patsy for empire-builders taxes and inflation. Let is examine some great schools elsewhere then compare them with Let it set up some constr goals, independent and final, and work the year at them, or stop cluttering the landscape and hind those who are dissatisfied less than the best and the diocre results California ting for the most costly system. Western High as well as Anaheim High will open for the seven weeks ending August 4. In an effort to have class offerings nearer the homes of more students, the Board of Trustees has approved the use of all four schools. Enrollment in summer school will begin May 29 and continue through the opening day of the summer session. The curriculum will include both the remedial courses for make-up work as well as enrichment classes for the academically capable students. There is no charge for residents of the Anaheim Union High School District.
