Williams, assistant superintendent in charge of education for Centralia School District, submitted his resignation to the Board of Trustees in a special meeting held to consider placement of principals and the hiring of an additional principal for the coming school year. Williams' resignation came as a surprise to the board and the administration. William Almand, president of the board, expressed his regret over Williams' decision, "Mr. Williams' decision was entirely his own."
