THE CHEF DOWS CLUB Hi Neighbor Day SAT. May 20 LA PALMA PARK ANAHEIM BEAUTIES—Linda Weaver (left), 17, and Cheryl Murdoch, 16, are two of more than a dozen contestants in the Hi Neighbor Day queen contest. Chef Levitt Ford is one of the coordinators for the Anaheim Lions Club's good neighbor get-together, set for May 20 in La Palma Park. Search in Anaheim Continues for Queen The search for the beautiful girl to reign over the El Toro Rodeo June 17-18 continues throughout Orange County as 17 different shopping centers sponsor beauty contests in Anaheim. The El Toro Rodeo Queen contest which began on April 15 and will continue through June 2 consists of three different phases. The first phase is now being conducted within the shopping centers that signed up to participate in this worthy venture. Each center provided entry blanks and all candidates are participating by obtaining votes on a penny-a-vote basis. The entrant that obtains the largest number of votes within her sponsoring center becomes the "queen" of that particular center and represents the center in the Rodeo Queen competition. All contributions collected are donated to the El Toro Auxiliary of the Navy Relief Society. This is a volunteer organization which aids marines, sailors and their dependents in time of need. The second phase of the contest consists of all shopping center queens submitting their photographs and pertinent information to the Rodeo Queen Committee at the Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro. These will all appear in the May 19 issue of the "Flight Jacket," El Toro's station newspaper. All of the lovely young ladies will also make personal appearances at El Toro and the Marine Corps Air Facility, Santa Ana, on Friday, May 19. At this time, Marine unit representatives will contact every person within their unit to obtain donations for the "queen" of their choice. The selection will also be based on a penny-a-vote basis. The six young ladies receiving the most votes (money) will be considered as finalists and will reach the third pla- CYO Day Camp Opens July 10 Sponsored by the Catholic Youth Organization, CYO Day Camp for boys and girls aged 7 through 12 years will be conducted in two periods, July 10-21 and July 24-August 4, at Irvine Park, James Perez, director, announced today. I think we should send our trash in grocery bags and have them picked up in city." GOP Group Reveals Annual Dinner Head Walter B. Mellott, Newport Beach construction executive, has accepted the assignment of general chairman of the 1961 Republican fund-raising dinner, scheduled for the Disneyland Gourmet Restaurant on June 6, it was announced this week by C. W. Key, county GOP chairman. Featured speaker at the dinner will be Hon. Richard M. Nixon, 1960 Republican Presidential candidate and native of Orange County. "A fool-proof system of reservations and seating has been worked out, an excellent menu planned, and former Vice President Nixon has assured us he will have a message that will galvanize Republicans everywhere into action," Mellott said. He added that Nixon will be starting his summer speaking tour with the Orange County appearance, and will give his old neighbors facts on things to come which will not have been theretofore available. Tickets for the event are on sale at $50, and proceeds will go to maintain Republican operations at county, state and federal levels, it was announced. The six young ladies receiving the most votes (money) will be considered as finalists and will reach the third plateau of the contest. The third, and final, phase of the contest will be held at the Anaheim Bowl, 1925 W. Lincoln Ave., Anaheim, on Friday, June 2. Here a panel of judges, four military and three civilian, will select the El Toro Rodio Queen based on poise, personality and pulchritude. The coronation of the Rodeo Queen will take place amid the frolic and festivities provided by a "name" band, Hollywood stars, television and movie celebrities, stage show, etc., at the Anaheim Bowl. The queen will receive a $300 gift certificate, a beautiful trophy and two complete western outfits. Each runner-up will receive a $50 gift certificate, a trophy and a complete western outfit. All six will reign over the two-day Rodeo-Carnival at El Toro. Each Shopping Center Queen will be the guest of the El Toro Rodeo. Shopping centers which have entered the El Toro Rodeo Queen contest are Broadway Village, Downtown Merchants, East Anaheim, White Front and Brookhurst Center, all of Anaheim. Comment... (Continued from Page 1-A) supply them at a set price that won't gouge the public. "I would like to suggest a new plan for gathering trash when the present contract is expired. I think we should send our trash in grocery bags and have them picked up in city trucks by monkeys trained for the job. Of course, I think we should continue to have men drive the trucks." All we can say is why settle for chimps only gathering the trash. After all, this race of monkeys was the first to go into space for the U.S. If they can do this it doesn't seem too far out of line that they might be better able to handle the present trash problems than some of the humans involved. Architect League Plans Home Tour The fifth annual Architects Home Tour presented by the Women's Architectural League of Orange County will be held May 6 from 12 to 5 p.m., providing an opportunity to view many outstanding architects' homes. There will be homes in all areas of Orange County and a $2 donation will enable visitors to view all seven homes on display. Proceeds will be used for the League's Scholarship and Library Fund. Servite Slates Open House Servite High School, college preparatory school for boys, will hold an Open House Sunday from 2 until 5 p.m. in preparation of registration and entrance examinations for the 1961-62 school term. Boys entering high school in September are invited to tour the school and to familiarize themselves with the college preparatory curriculum. Interested parents are also invited. Entrance examinations for next year's freshman class will be held at the school, 1952 W. La Palma, on Saturday, May 6. commencing at 9 a.m. This is the only date on which these examinations will be given. BIRTHS ANAHEIM MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DAHL, Mr. and Mrs. Basil, of 504 W.
