'CENTURY OF MUSIC' THEME OF COLLEGE CONCERT TOMORROW Chapman College's Music Department will present "A Century of American Music" tomorrow evening at 8:15 in the college auditorium. The free concert is a special event of the Chapman College Centennial Year. Opening the program will be three little-known songs by Stephen Foster, which will be rendered by members of the Madrigal Singers exactly as they were written and published 100 years ago. Baritone Ralph Prime will sing Samuel Barber's "Dover Beach," accompanied by Robert Pierre and Lois Ault, violinists; Ralph S. Smith, violist, and Sandra Smmith, 'cellist. Two piano selections, "The White Peacock" by Charles T. Griffes and "March Wind" by Edward MacDowell, will be played by Dr. Edgar Sholund, head of the music department. Dr. Sholund will also accompany Linda Winchester, soprano, who will sing "I Hate Music," a cycle of "kid" songs by Leonard Bernstein, conductor of the New York Philharmonic. "Three Chorale Variations on Hebrew Themes," by Ellis B. Kohs, a professor of music at USC, will be played by Dr. Ronald M. Huntington, college organist. Closing the program will be five numbers by the Madrigal Singers, under the direction of S. Sheldon Disrud. They will sing "De Profundis," by Virgil Thomson, "Sixty-seventh Psalm," by Charles E. Ives, "Simple Gifts," by Aaron Copland, "Devilish Mary," by Ernst Bacon, and "Thaw," a madrigal written especially for the concert by Professor Sholund. Begonias Topic Of Fuchsia Meet "Begonias" will be discussed by Don Horton, manager of the Armstrong Nursery, Tuesday at the meeting of the Orange County branch of the California National Fuchsia Society at 8 p.m. in the Legion Hall, 936 N.
