1ST ANNIVERSARY 1961
Worship of God One of Cardinal Obligations of Scouting Program
Boy Scout Sunday, February 12, will be observed in churches and other houses of worship of all faiths in the Anaheim area. Thousands of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers attending Protestant and Catholic churches will hear their pastors deliver sermons especially for young men, according to William Bent, Council executive of the Northern Orange County Boy Scout Council.
The services, marking the fifty-first anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, will be observed under the theme of "Strengthen America . . . Character Counts."
Scouts who have qualified will receive the religious awards presented by their respective churches, for the Boy Scouts of America believes that no boy can grow to successful manhood without a firm belief in God.
As the Scout keeps himself physically strong by training, so he builds himself spiritually by practicing his religion.
The religious award program helps him grow spiritually. This is not a Boy Scout award, but an award given by the churches and synagogues after the boy has worked very closely with his minister, priest or rabbi.
