GARDENERS’ CHECKLIST
FOR FEBRUARY 9 TO FEBRUARY 15
(Prepared by the California Association of Nurserymen)
1. Many vegetable plants are available in flats, including tomatoes, lettuce, chard and celery. They are easy transplanted.
2. Set out spring-blooming annuals. A flat full of pests or calendula will bring spring to your garden a hurry.
3. Prune roses if you haven’t already. Prune fuchsia also, and don’t be afraid to cut them back.
4. New camellia varieties are showing bloom each week in nurseries. There’s no better time to buy them than when you can see the blooms.
5. Bare-root shade trees, fruit trees and shrubs can be planted through February. The earlier the better.
