IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO OWN YOUR OWN HOME—AND YOUR AMERICAN RIGHT! VISIT THESE FIRMS THIS WEEK B2 Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Thursday, Dec. 29, 1960 RISE IN FARM EQUIPMENT DEMAND DURING 1961 SEEN Prediction that the nation's demand for farm equipment will be 15 percent higher in 1961 than it has been this year was voiced yesterday by Merritt Dr. Hill, vice president and general manager of Ford Motor Company's tractor and implement division. Reviewing the industry's sales during the current year, Hill said: "The year 1960 was a very disappointing one for most producers of farm equipment. The industry's tractor production slumped 45 per cent from the 1959 level. "Retail sales were off more moderately, the decline resulting primarily from unusually cold and wet weather in many areas of the United States in the spring and from farmer pessimism in the early part of the year regarding income prospects. "It appears now that his pessimism was not justified. Gross" French Comedy To Be Shown A French comedy starring the French comedian, Fernan- "Retail sales were off more moderately, the decline resulting primarily from unusually cold and wet weather in many areas of the United States in the spring and from farmer pessimism in the early part of the year regarding income prospects. "It appears now that his pessimism was not justified. Gross farm income in 1960 is estimated at $37.7 billion, a slight increase from 1959. With fewer farms in operation in 1960, the per-farm average gross income rose an estimated 3 per cent this year. "Because reliable industry statistics on inventories and retail sales are not available in time to be of much benefit to members of our industry in planning production schedules, field stocks of tractors and of many items of farm equipment and harvesting machinery were substantially higher at the beginning of 1960 than warranted. This led to production curtailments, and in some lines to 'distress' selling. "The excessive inventories appear now to have been worked off, and production in line with sales can be resumed. "We believe that 1961 will remain intensely competitive in the areas of price, quality and service on farm equipment. Every maker will continue battling the pressures of the cost-price squeeze, and will continue to concentrate on offering the farmer production 'tools' to help him reduce his cost inputs in relation to his crop outputs. "Farm machinery, of course, has demonstrated its ability to help the farmer increase his efficiency. Each farmer now is capable of raising enough material for himself and 25 other persons. This contrasts with French Comedy To Be Shown A French comedy starring the French comedian, Fernandel, and a documentary film on the history of photography will be presented by the Chapman College Great Films Guild January 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. in the Orange Theater. "Three Feet in a Bed," a force of mistaken identity, presents Fernandel in the leading role of an unsuccessful vacuum cleaner salesman involved with a wealthy Argentinian woman who owns 400 hotels and who mistakes him for a painter she has corresponded with. Dialogue of the film is in French, with English subtitles. On the same program will be "The Naked Eye," which includes work of some of America's greatest photographers—among them Margaret Bourke-White, Edward Weston and Alfred Eisenstadt. Produced by Louis Clyde Stoumen, the film is narrated by Raymond Massey and has a musical background arranged and conducted by Elmer Bernstein. The documentary won top awards at both the Venice and Edinburgh Film Festivals. Registration appointments for freshmen and new students of the Orange Coast College can be made by calling the counseling center, KImberly 5-1151. Extension 205, the college has announced."
