Out-of-State Christmas Packages Should Be Mailed Before Dec. 10 About ten pounds of Christmas mail will be moved for every man, woman and child in the United States during the coming month, and Southern Pacific joined the Post Office today in urging Christmas shoppers to mail their packages and cards early. H. S. Orner, general manager of mail, baggage and express traffic for the railroad, warned that Christmas mail headed for distant places should be sent soon. "Mail for out-of-state delivery should be sent no later than Dec. 10," Orner said. "Christmas mail for destinations in the same state should be sent by Dec. 13, and local mail should be sent by Dec. 16." To move this year's holiday mail, which is expected to exceed that of 1959, Southern Pacific crews will work around the clock, and the railroad will add enough extra mail cars to its trains this month to make a train almost 40 miles long.
