Hedden Jr., 29, whose parents live at 1804 Harriet Lane, Anaheim, recently arrived in Seoul and is now a member of the U.S. Army Advisory Group to Korea (KMAG). KMAG is a group of approximately 1,500 highly skilled officers and enlisted men who aid and advise the Republic of Korea Army in all phases of military operation. Two soldiers from Anaheim, Recruits Anthony Smerko and John O. Floyd, completed eight weeks of advanced individual light weapons training at Fort Ord, Calif. They entered the Army last June. Smerko, 18, is the son of Mrs. Thomas Dorn, 1318 Claremont St. He is a 1960 graduate of Anaheim Union High School. Floyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Floyd, 911 Reseda, attended Anaheim Union High School. Army Pvt. Harold B. Dunlavy, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Kenneth L. Dunlavy, 1505 E. Center St., Anaheim, recently qualified as an expert in firing the M-1 rifle while serving with Parish Members Top Fund Drive. The capital funds drive undertaken by members of the West Anaheim Methodist Church, 2045 W. Ball Rd., Anaheim, during the past week was over-subscribed. He was active in the Orange County Farm Bureau and was officially connected with Anaheim Farm Center. For 25 years he served as superintendent or director of the Anaheim Cooperative Orange Association. Funeral services were conducted from the U. U. B. Church, Hilgenfeld Mortuary directed. Dr. Donald Spittler and Rev. A. McCandless officiated. Interment was made in Fairhaven Memorial Park. HASSON, Rebecca Henrietta, 71, of 205 Alta St., Placentia, died Nov. 23. Surviving are: daughter, Mrs. Betty Ann Hauber; brothers, David L. and Leonard Lemke; sisters, Mrs. Irene Slicken; Mrs. Johanna Kent and Mrs. Evelyn Hawkins four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Hasson was born in this area as a daughter of an early pioneering family, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lemke. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Placentia, the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem in Fullerton and of Chappa chapter, Eastern Star of Anaheim. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m at Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Stanley N. Jones officiated, with interment in the Anaheim Cemetery with the Eastern Star ritual recited by members of Chappa chapter. ROPER, Lillie May, 80, of 1239 E. Chestnut, died Nov. 22. Surviving are: son, Lewis W. Roper; daughter, Mrs Julia Mae Brown; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Roper was born in Indiana and had lived in California for 48 years and in New York for 14 years. Army Pvt. Harold B. Dunlavy, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Kenneth L. Dunlavy, 1505 E. Center St., Anaheim, recently qualified as an expert in firing the M-1 rifle while serving with the 8th Infantry Division in Germany. A senior supply clerk in Headquarters Company of the division's 20th Transportation Battalion in Bad Kreuznach, he entered the Army in April 1960, completed basic training at Ford Ord, and arrived overseas last September. The 21-year-old soldier is a 1957 graduate of Anaheim Union High School and was employed by L. M. Cox Mfg. Co., Inc., in Santa Ana before entering the Army. Marines Pfc. William L. Ervin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin E. Mathias of 2552 Glenhaven Ave., Anaheim, and Pfc. Kenneth W. Griffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Griffin of 3228 Sunview Dr., Anaheim, departed Camp Schwab, Okinawa, as members of the Second Provisional Marine Landing Team which is operating aboard U.S.ships in the western Pacific, while serving with the Fifth Marine Regiment, an amphibious unit of the Third Marine Division. Steven D. Tietge, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Tietge of 925 Keystone St., Anaheim, has graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego. The graduation exercises, marking the end of nine weeks of "boot camp," included a full dress parade and review before military officials and civilian dignitaries. Laviole competed with 257 recruits for the award, which is given to outstanding marines in recruit training. Marine Pfc. Klaus Margel, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Reiss of 9732 Colchester Dr., Anaheim, is serving with the Third Service Regiment operating with the Second Provisional Battalion landing team aboard ships of the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific.
