CAPPON MAGRO? Petite gruyere...froschschenkel...cappon magro...petoria de gallina a la espanola. Ever come across these items on a menu? If you've traveled abroad you have...if you ever intend to travel abroad you will. What do they mean? Petite gruyere is French for Swiss cheese...simple as that! Froschschenkel is German for its legs, while cappon magra is a luscious Italian vegeta salad with lobster, fish and chovies. You'd really miss nothing if you passed this by. And petitoria de gallina a la espanola would be found on a Spanish menu—fowl assacced with saffron, nutmeg, peas. Like the poor girl—in the classic story—who travelled all over Europe eating nothing but chicken salad because she didn't read foreign menus... Many Americans also miss the finest foreign cuisine. And the problem is becoming as big at home. With more and more foreign restaurants opening all over the country, the need to have an adequate knowledge of food terms is growing. How's your foreign food savvy? If you need help, noted food authority Robert J. Misch has just the thing for you. An easy-to-use, pocket-sized Foreign Dining Dictionary of menus, foods and drinks. Auto Seat Belt For Yule Gift Christmas gift suggtstion for the man who has everything—almost: Buy him (or her, if your friend's a hep woman driver) an auto seat belt. It could mean a really merry Christmas for someone—by saving a life! "The motorist who has everything (except a seat belt that is) could wind up with nothing but trouble if he gets in a traffic accident," said the National Safety Council. The Council, a non-governmental agency organized in 1913 to prevent all kinds of accidents, heartily endorses seat belts at Christmas—or any other time of the year, for that matter. "Seat belts," it said, "are the No. 1 device now available to reduce the number of traffic deaths and injuries. "Use of seat belts by every driver—and the day may come when this will be nearer reality—could cut the traffic death toll by 5,000 a year, the number of injuries 60 per cent. "Wish a friend a truly merry Christmas this year. Give him a life-saving seat belt." (And while you're at it, why not take that idea one step further. Buy belts for yourself and your family, too.)
