Travelers Cheques Now Legal
For Payment of Moving Bills
People who move to new homes across state lines will no longer need to carry "more cash than they can afford to lose," according to W. B. Marsh, district manager of the American Express Company.
He disclosed that by a recent change in tariff rules of the Interstate Commerce Commission, it has become legal to pay for shipment of household goods with travelers cheques in place of cash. This affords protection to the moving public and to the long-distance moving industry, against risks of cash losses and thefts, Marsh stated.
Streptococcal Infections Hit All-Time High
Out of 995 Orange County residents stricken with infectious diseases the past two weeks, 839 of them were hit by streptococcal infections. were reported.

More than 37,000,000 Americans—about 20% of the entire U.S. population—move to new homes each year, nearly 6,000,000 of them making out-of-state moves. Until now, many people had to carry substantial cash while enroute to their new homes because ICC regulations prohibit payment by personal check and limit the use of credit.
Marsh said that if American Express Travelers Cheques are lost or stolen, the company makes a complete refund without charge.
Nurses to Attend Anaheim Seminar
A third annual Conference on Economic Security, presented by University of California Extension, in cooperation with the California State Nurses Association, will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
Approximately 150 nurses from the extended Orange County area are expected to attend, as they have in the past. Registration deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Eighty-six cases of mumps
For the year so far, 16,004 persons have been attacked by strep infections—up nearly 3,500 cases over the same period a year ago.

Polio has claimed 33 victims in 1960—up 13 over the 1959 total. Nineteen of the 33 polio patients are suffering from a paralytic involvement of the disease. Four persons have died from polio in the county during the year.

The development site is located on Ball Rd. at Beach Blvd.

A Wise Plan
When a family is overcome by grief, it is hard to face practical realities. Avoid that burden by making complete funeral arrangements before the need arises. A member of our staff will be pleased to explain the simplicity of such a plan; either in our office or in the privacy of your own home.

State Sponsored Child Care Centers
On Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., John Weber, state superintendent of child care centers, will speak in the cafetorium of Katella school, located on the corner of Katella and West Sts., Anaheim.
Any persons interested in establishing some state-sponsored child care centers in Orange County are invited to meet at that time. This care is for children from two years through the sixth grade. The fees are based on the number in the family and the family income.
For further information, contact Rita R. Martin at JE-1340, 700 W. Orangewood, Anaheim, or your local school superintendent. Any persons needing to have such care for their children please attend.
Statistics Show County Tax Rate In Low Category
Orange County claims the sixth lowest county tax rate in the state and the lowest tax rate of any county in its population class (over 500,000), according to a report by County Supervisor William J. Phillips.
Statistics listed by Phillips show the county also has the fourth lowest assessment ratio, with taxable properties evaluated for tax purposes at only 19.8 per cent of their actual cash value.
Open House Celebration Marks Debut of Enco Service Stations
A three-day open house celebration was observed at 35 new Enco service stations in the Los Angeles area; signaling the formal marketing entry of Humble Oil & Refining Company into California.
The new Humble outlets, which will fly the ENCO brand name in an oval over their driveways and will sell ENCO and ENCO EXTRA, high energy gasoline, are a part of the Humble Division of the Humble Company, which now markets in 40 states.
The name ENCO is derived from ENnergy COmpony in Humble's slogan "America's Safeway Dollar"
