B4—Anaheim Gazette Anahiem, Thursday, Dec. 1, 1900 ODDLY ENOUGH by William The cockroach — bone of the housewife — is one of the oldest insects known to man. Evidence of roaches has been found in coal, formed from trees which grew millions of years ago, in the Paleozoic Era. The amazing ability of the roach to survive was confirmed by archeologists in the Aswan Valley, Egypt. Uncovering ancient tombs, they found live roaches, the descendants of insects sealed inside thousands of years earlier. This stubborn insect has developed immunity to many of science's modern insecticides. Yet, Pyrenone (piperonyl butoxide & pyrethrins) — an insecticide base developed by Fairfield Chemicals, Food Machinery & Chemical Corp. — remains effective against this food-spoiling, germ-carrying pest — without harming children, adults or pets.
