California Civil Defense Chief
Addresses Orange County Groups
First official Orange County visit of the recently appointed Director of the California Disaster Office, Allan K. Jonas, took place Monday when the state CD chief addressed Orange County civil defense coordinators in the Gourmet Restaurant of the Disneyland Hotel at noon.
A resident of Santa Monica, Jonas was named by Governor Brown to head the important disaster office this summer.
Director Jonas was invited to Orange County at the request of County Civil Defense Director C. M. (Cye) Featherly, chairman of the Board of Supervisors.
Text of the director's talk was the role of the California Disaster Office and its six regional offices play in the day-to-day administration of civil defense organization throughout the state, and how that role will make possible disaster relief for citizens of the state during war-caused disasters and declared peace-time disasters.
Welcoming Jonas was Mayor A. J. Schutte of Anaheim, host city, and other dignitaries of the area.

The campus Homecoming Dance will start at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Student Center. The weekend observance will close Sunday afternoon.

Truck Route Issue Reviewed at Meet
A report before the city council revealed that 98% of the trucks swinging off the Riverside Freeway at Magnolia Ave. use the residential route simply as short cuts to Cypress, Stanton and other West Orange County cities.
But how to reroute them to Orangethorpe Ave. and over to Grand Ave. poses even a bigger problem, according to Keith Murdoch, city manager.
Anaheim needs an alternate route, but this route would have to pass through two other cities and a co-op agreement would have to be consummated.
Council Approach
A possibility remains reduction of speed limits area would discourage travel.

Council Approves New Housing Unit
A possibility remains that reduction of speed limits in the area would discourage truck travel.
Plans for a 32-home tract on Western Ave. and Ball Rd. were approved by the City Council.
Developer Robert R. Grant said lot sizes will range from 7800 square feet and the luxury homes will range from a low of $18,000.
