School Personnel To Meet Monday
Directors of School Maintenance and Operations in Orange County will hold their monthly meeting Monday evening, Nov. 14, at 6:30, it was announced by Herb Bass, publicity chairman from the Centralia district.
The dinner meeting, to be held at the Chungking Cafe, 327 E. Center St., Anaheim, will deal with different types of roofs, their problems, and repairs.
All directors, supervisors and other school personnel are invited to attend the meeting, Bass said.
The Tambourine, the Trumpet and the Big Bass Drum
"Could you love the unloved in the spirit of the Lord?" ask the words of Mr. Willson's song. "That's the creed of an Army, a God-fearing Army, marching with trumpet and drum. With banners and bonnets, they come!"
Since the first Christmas Eve when angels bent close to earth to "touch their harps of gold," music has been part of the pageantry surrounding Christ's birthday.
At this time of year, shoppers hurrying from store to store hear the strains of familiar carols over the traffic's noise. The source is a small band of blue-coated men and women—The Salvation Army—collecting gifts in red kettles on behalf of the poor.
At Christmas, The Salvation Army seeks to bring joy to all corners of the community—to the sick, to the distressed and especially to children. And music accompanies almost all of the giving. In hospital wards, the carolling lends a festive air as bonneted lassies pass among the beds handing out packages and Christmas greetings. In homes for the aged, in prisons and at the numerous parties given by The Salvation Army, the music Salvationists play awakens memories of Christmas past, and kindles the spark of the Christmas spirit.

While their band music is perhaps most often connected with Christmas in the public’s thoughts, it is an important part of The Salvation Army’s year-round program of seeking to meet human needs and extending God’s kingdom on earth.

FIRST FOR ORANGE COUNTY
Cobalt Therapy Unit for Cancer to Be Installed Soon at New Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim
Orange County's first Cobalt therapy unit for cancer treatment will be installed early in November at the new Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim.
To house the unit, a special concrete block house with walls up to three feet thick has been constructed.
The Cobalt 60 isotope source of the unit has a strength of 1,500 Curies—powerful enough to last up to five years before it must be replaced. It is sheathed in a lead container weighing 3,000 pounds.
"The high energy radiation provided by the Cobalt source enables the radiologist to treat certain malignant lesions with a greater depth dosage and with less damage to healthy tissues surrounding the tumor bed," explains Dr. M. Lawrence Weinstein, co-director with Dr. Nicholas E. Roberti of the radiology department at the hospital.
"With the Cobalt unit, the radiologist can give a higher dose to certain types of tumors in a shorter time without desirable side effects such as nausea and other generalisable 'sickness' that patients sometimes experience from conventional X-ray treatment as well as a less severe skin reaction over the treated area."
There are less than 300 Cobalt units installed in the man for Martin Luther Hire United States, a spoken capital said.
Steps of obtaining grand stalling the unit are carefully supervised by the Atomic Energy Commission.
The hospital radiology department must be licensed.
